Hi! I just found this app/forum yesterday. I'm a 44 year old female, 5ft 6 in tall, 222 lbs. I was diagnosed about 5 years ago with Type 2 diabetes and at first I really tried hard and exercised and reduced my carbs. Then, over the years, I've become lazy. I started this year at around 235 lbs and lost around 13 lbs, and have gained back 2 lbs. Several things have made it "click" in my head that I HAVE to get back on track and get control of my weight and eating/exercise. My goal is to lose 20 lbs by October 21, and a total of 40 lbs by Feb 28 2017. I know I can do this by following the reduced-carb diet my doctor recommended, and by getting a total of 1 hour of exercise per day. I love love love to lift weights and strength train, and my body responds well to it, so I'll add some walking to the routine and get this done!

I have to confess, one other thing has happened that kicked my butt into gear. My female cousin, a year older than me and probably weighing in at 320 lbs, has undergone weight loss surgery. She has not told anyone in the family, except her parents and husband. I'm not supposed to know, but nobody in the family can keep a secret! I am absolutely not judging her for her decision to have surgery - I understand that some people just cannot lose weight any other way. But I am LIVID that she is constantly posting on Facebook about her weight loss, having to buy new clothes, her wedding ring becoming loose, etc. and people are asking her how she did it. She is responding that it is by diet and hard work, and not mentioning the surgery at all. I think that is the worst thing she could do to her friends and family! Almost all of her friends are very overweight, and they are being led to believe she just found a massive dose of willpower that they themselves just do not have. After she has complained for decades about celebrities lying about their weight loss, now she is doing the very same thing. It sent me over the edge and I decided that I can lose my weight by diet and exercise. I don't know why, but anger is one of my best motivators!

I have joined a couple of the boards here - Low Carb and Women Who Lift. I spent my entire lunch hour looking at the Success Stories, and I hope to be one someday!

Hello and welcome. Given that you have T2D, I strongly suggest you check out the mail low carber daily forum group here in MFP. It's where most of us Ketofiles (low carbers) tend to hang out:

I have several friends and family members that have lost weight by surgery too. It irks me when they say they've been dieting and exercise when I know they didn't. And now I see them gaining weight back because they didn't take care of the one thing that they should have and that was to change their life their habits. So add me I can use all the friends I could get for accountability motivation and encouragement
