I need to lose 100+ lbs, I know I have an addiction to food, and something you can not just stop cold turkey, I have to do this for my kids and grandkids.. My worse time is evenings, and weekends...kids want to go out and hard to resist the (good) food. Or finish thier leftovers.. Any support would be awesome, I live with 5 guys, my husband, 3 sons ages 24, 16, 4, and have my 2 yr old grandson... Don't make it easy, Nome of them need to lose any :(

Well we all have an addiction to food...

As you said it is hard to resist... For all of us. Just resist - there is no easy way. You go to Burger King with them: they eat burgers - you order a salad. That is just how it works. You do that for 3 month and it starts to get easier and more natural. But believe me... It's never easy.

The other option: Daily rigorous exercise. Diffrent but needs the same amount of willpower.

Its a mind thing and something you learn to control overtime.Your taking the first steps asking for help and going mfp.Just take it day by day...baby steps!!!Great support system goes a long way.I just drink tons of water, write, walk, chew gum and just stay focus by my 16month daughter she is my motivation and main focus. If I eat something I shouldn't a small portion I never deprive myself. I notice overtime my good habits in eating has rubbed off on others...stay focus!!! Stay positive and I'm here whenever needed!!!

It's all about willpower and mind over matter. Everyone is addicted to food in the sense that if you don't eat any, you die. There's been no proof that "food addiction" is a real thing in any other sense. It's usually about underlying emotional issues. Don't use that as an excuse for not being able to lose weight. I'm not trying to be mean but sometimes a little harsh reality is necessary, right?

There is no law that you can't throw away food. The others in your family have obviously figured that out if they are leaving food for you to eat and don't need to lose weight. You don't need to be the family's garbage disposal. If they take it on their plate, they eat it. If you are serving them and they leave it behind, give them less the next time. No waste and you don't have to feel guilty about throwing it away.

Use MFP the way it is designed. If you eat it, you quantify the calorie content and then you log it. Stay within your calorie goal and you will lose weight. Add exercise to your daily routine, as much as you can. Walking is a good start. It is not only good for your health it gives you more calories to eat: a win-win!

Take baby steps! Don't try to remake your life all at once. You don't have to start eating all veggies or organic and grass-fed to lose weight. Start out with the logging and add some walking. When that all gets to be second nature make some food substitutions to help bring your calories goals in line.

Best wishes to you as you start out. It can be hard, but it's oh so worth it!

one way to not eat their leftovers is to have them scrap their plates and containers into the trash as they leave the table. If you really can't throw something away....ie... left over chicken, burgers, fries and such, put them in a freezer bag and stick them in a freezer. Burgers and fries, things like that won't be any good, but it's a mind trick.

Dragonfly45068, I can't give much advice on how not to crave. I'll just say that to help me resist giving in to the craving, I'm online. Better here than in the kitchen.

This is day two for me and now that dinner is done - I'm seriously mind-hungry. Water is so not taking away my urge to binge. So I came to the MFP community trying to figure out how to make my heart believe what my stomach already knows. (I'm FULL, it's just a craving).

Best to you, you can stay on course!!

    Marie.

Great advice here. Maybe before you all go out to eat again, look up some of the usual fare in the food tracker for the restaurants you and your family prefer and find the healthiest items you can. You will be more in control and that is what it's all about. Best of luck!
