I obsess over staying within my macros but since I'm not as strict on myself I don't eat the right macros so I sacrifice my calories and eat way under my deficiet or I get the duck it's and go over on everything!

But some macros should be a minimum not a maximum if you're following MFP numbers - like they usually set protein really low. Just count calories if it causes an issue for you.

Hit a reasonable protien goal (.8 grams per kg of body weight) and don't worry about the rest.

    Don't worry about the macros.
Eating to your calorie goal is the #1 way to lose weight.

Once you are comfortable eating at your calorie goals start worrying about nutrition, what keeps you satiated, and your macros.
Protein is the most important, treat the MFP goal as a minimum, then fat, again above goal is fine, carbs fill in the rest.

Keep the whole process as simple as you can. Pre logging food works for a lot of people. It means they can balance their diet easier.

    Cheers, h.

Hit calories first. Only worry about macros if you have a specific reason to do so.

You're not expected to hit all three macros perfectly. @vismal had a great video about this I should have bookmarked when I saw it.

I just worry about protein, as that is essential for me for satiety, and the fat and carbs take care of themselves.

I agree, make it as easy as you can, so you'll be willing to do it. I am really good at finding reasons not to do things I don't want to do.

macros (protein and fat) are a minimum not maximum, so it doesn't matter if you go over on any of them as long as you're in a caloric deficit at the end of the day, to make it easier just make sure you hit your protein goal and let the fat/carbs fall wherever they may

I dont really care about macros, CICO works so I dont care how much fat, carbs or protein I get. I get why some people want to track it, though.

There are 6 macros and you need to aim for at least one out of the 2 groups each day for a happy life.

    1) Beer, cocktails, and wine.
    2) cake, chocolate, ice cream.

( if group 1 is not suitable 2 of group 2 may be permitted.)

    Cheers, h.

Or we can do both groups together.

Track your calories, just eat a decent amount of protein. And relax.
