Cykling + step counting = not so good

Hi all,
I have for some time used Apples Iphone built in step counter and I presume it quite accurate.
I then took up cykling again same time as I started to use Endomondo again.
When I tracks my cykling rounds in Endomondo I also noticed that my steps, synced to Endomondo from Iphone, kept in just about same range as before when I only was walking. My phone is mounted in the handlebars on a stand, therefor I figure it can't duplicate step movements...but obviously something is happening.
I have turned of the step tracker as it gives a very false impression of my burned calories but at the same time I miss out on valuable stats and my day is not accurate due to this.
So my question, what step counter should I choose that's not interfering with my cykling?
I use a pulse band from Polar that´s added to Endomondo and Endomondo sync data to MFP
Thanks in advance

I use the "Moves" app on my iphone for step counting. It automatically differentiates between walking, running and cycling, and gives a calorie burn for each. I don't know if it can be synced to other apps.0

I use a Garmin Fenix 3 watch which is a very expensive option but it does a good job of counting my steps and it doesn't pick many up when I drive or bike.
You can't just turn step counting off while you're doing a bike ride (for best results) because sometimes you get off the bike to fill your water bottles or empty the one nature gave you, etc.0 -
I'm lost.... Your phone is picking up steps while you cycle?0

moves is a good app that was mention...i just count my walking and sometimes running steps, not elliptical, or bike...makes me do more which is fine0

I have an iPhone and iWatch. I ride a bicycle during the spring-summer-fall months. I have compared, my cycling data from the iwatch to my other HRMs. They all seem in synch. So I am not sure where your steps are coming from0
