haha so exercising and eating right off and on with spurts of binge eating and zero exercise mixed in over the last few years has netted me a result of not much improvement. Good news? I have read some great books, had some good association and conversations, and feel like some things have clicked mentally that has streamlined and disciplined my decision-making process. This whole battle is MENTAL. I heard someone talk about the "self-respect bank". Every time you make a good decision you're proud of yourself for you make a 'deposit' into that bank every time you make a bad decision you're ashamed of is a 'withdrawal'. I think the problem with most people who are desperately out of shape from years of withdrawals every day from the self respect bank are walking around with a huge negative balance. They have no self respect. I think we all need to declare mental bankruptcy in this area. In other words, forgive ourselves, let go of the guilt and shame of all the bad decisions to skip exercise or eat another slice (haha). This will do a few things. 1) it will just relieve a weight from your shoulders, thats a lot to carry around 2) it will allow us to make future mistakes/withdrawals without them being compounded on years of mistakes and it wrecking our entire world and throwing us off the tracks. Ive started to look at every decision as "is this a deposit or a withdrawal from my self respect bank?" So far since implementing what I've been learning I've been in the gym 3 days straight, I've developed personally all 3 days, ate well all 3 days. I am doing a two-month blackout on social media to reduce noise and distractions (the #1 key to success is FOCUS). Also forcing myself out of bed at 6am every day just for that extra personal time and because it is also a self respect deposit in another area of my life. Think about how your life could change if you just started changing some of the withdrawals in a few areas of your life into deposits.

I plan on a 3 on 1 off exercise regimen, I'm focusing on weight lifting. It's what I prefer to do and it builds my self confidence and self respect. I'm not going to OBSESS over every last gram of fat and each calorie, I'm going to be making deposits.

You might also like the book "slight edge". i consider this to be the master key to pretty much any type of success in anything you want to do. it just talks about making small daily decisions (deposits & withdrawals) and how they ultimately shape your entire life. it's a very good read.

I like your thoughts on bankruptcy for wiping the slate clean. Dragging around the guilt and shame for past behaviors can weigh one down in so many ways.
