After finally having the reconstructive ankle surgery (modified brostrom repair, tendon graft and lateralizing calcaneal osteotomy) i've needed for, oh... ten years, and learning to walk again, I've lost some undertermined amount of weight. This morning I tried on a pair of size 16 (misses! not W!) jeans that I couldn't fasten two weeks ago, and they fit beautifully.

Honestly, the real victories are being able to pour a glass of water and carry it to a different room before drinking it (cursed crutches!); being able to walk the few blocks to the office; go grocery shopping... but the jeans are a sweet bonus. In a few months I hope to post about how I can wear shoes that aren't sneakers and that I possess zero surplus chins. It's going to be pretty magical ;)

Some days I lament the medical care system that didn't provide the diagnostics and subsequent treatment I needed while I was too young to be an effective advocate for my own health and wonder to what extent my activity levels have limited throughout my late teens and early 20s. Not today. Today I'm just excited to ambulate under my own power.
