Beginner....Again

I have, for the past 3 months or so, begun swimming as a way to increase activity in my sedentary life. Usually 1-2 times a week. It's the only kind of exercise I have stuck with EVER (partially due to no sweating; hate sweating). Usually I start and the rest is history. Now that I actually want to be active I want to increase my activity more so, but I don't want to overdo it like I usually do and end up quitting.
The cold weather will be here soon and was considering an elliptical machine that doesn't take up much space and won't break down on me. Can anyone suggest one and a light-med exercise regimen for the whole body?

I have a Schwinn 150 elliptical bike that I sometimes use. I like that you can increase the resistance of the bike to make the workout much harder. It also has a plug-in for a mp3 player, which helps a lot during long cycling sessions.0
