Starting a low carb, high protein diet. Help!

Hey guys!
It's been a few years since I did the low carb high protein diet.
Mind you, I was about 19 living with my older sister who was strict on that diet.

Well now I'm 23. 133.1lbs and 5'2".
No that's not over weight I know. But all the pounds are in my stomach and my upper arms.
I would like to get to 125lbs and then tone up.

The hardest part I have run in to so far with the low carb/high protein diet is...
Snacks! What can I have as snacks that are high protein and low carb. Besides cheese and chicken.

Also: what's a good protein powder? I was looking at the quest protein powder.

Thanks in advance! Just got my fitness pal again yesterday and not sure how to take use it to its fullest yet.

Side answer: You don't really have to go low carb. As long as you stick to your calories, you will lose weight. I'm high carb and losing. I love beans too much.
Snacks: apples, almonds (weighed), glass of milk, greek yogurt, even a 100 calorie bag of popcorn.

    Hi and welcome !

You might look into "recomping" - changing the percentage of body fat by eating near or just under maintenance and lifting/working out - if you are near your goal weight already and just want to look more defined. There is a fairly in depth discussion of that here: http://community.myfitnesspal.com/en/discussion/10177803/recomposition-maintaining-weight-while-losing-fat/p1

Snacks that are low in carbohydrate, I like boiled eggs, avocado, low carb tortillas and lunch meats, some nuts, etc. Beef jerky is still my favorite...

For protein powders, I like to use Whey isolate. It is whey protein that has been passed through an extra filtration step to remove lactose - a naturally occurring sugar in diary that some people cannot digest, and some other milk solids. My favorite is EAS Myo Cinnabon flavor - smooth, tasty, not too sweet and dissolves completely. Other brand names out there are Dymatize Iso 100 and Optimum Nutrition ("ON").

Best of luck with your fitness goals!

We have about the same stats and goals- I am also trying to do more high protein. My biggest issue is with sugar and bread. I did atkins in the past with alot of luck by mainly eating baked chicken, but my diet was very bland and boring. I do agree with another poster that beef jerky is a great treat. Greek yogurt is a good one too, but i have to not get one that is too sweet or it sets off cravings.

I find low carb high fat suits me best. It really curbs my appetite, so I end up not really needing to snack anymore. That said, some great low carb snack options - nuts, deli meat roll ups (with or without cheese), veggies dipped in guacamole or any full fat dip you like, berries drowning in heavy cream, really good dark chocolate, full fat plain Greek yogurt (you can add your own fruit if you wish, just watch the amount), pepperoni slices, bacon, fat bombs, "chips" made from baked Parmesan cheese, celery with a bit of peanut butter, hard boiled eggs... Those are the snacks I gravitate to on the odd occasion that I get hungry between meals.

    HTH!

    Hey thanks everyone!
I do buy the Fage Greek Yogurt 0%
    Helps when I want sugar.

I never though of beef jerky snacks! I love beef jerky!
As far as eggs go. I'm just learning to like them. I can do scrambled or cooked on the oven. So far I can't face the hard boiled egg. Wish I could!

I can't answer any of your questions, but I'd like to say this:

Low carb, high protein isn't really a thing; low carb, high FAT is, and medium protein. That said, no praticular diet or macro split is necessary or better for fat loss. An appropriate calorie deficit is.

You don't need snacks if you eat good, filling, regular meals. Low carb is known for its satiating qualities. If you still want to snack, you can eat what you would have for meals, just smaller portions, I guess.

This means that protein powder most likely will be overkill. Most people can get enough protein through food.
