Does anyone go by macros? I did read you should use them as a guide.

Calories are macros multiplied by constants, I have always paid attention to what's in the calories as it's important to get your protein needs, there are some essential fats you need to eat and so on.
For weight loss alone you could stick to calories, as long as you're eating a variety of healthy foods the macros may well fall into place themselves.2 -

Increasing protein and decreasing carbs helps me stay in a calorie deficit. Protein keeps me fuller longer.0
