weighing foods

are you supposed to weigh your food before or after you cook it? like the 40g of carb in a 1/4 cup of rice is that cooked rice or dry, uncooked rice???

    There are database entries for both raw and cooked items. Weighing pre-cooking is generally more accurate. Search for a database entry that specifies whether or not it is cooked and use that one.

    Uncooked rice is about 200 calories per 1/4 cup dry. Cooked rice (such as Minute brand) is about200 calories per 1/2 cup. It usually says it on the package.

    Meat measurements are always before cooking, but a good indicator on whether or not the entry is pre-or post- cooking is whether a serving is 3oz or 4oz. Usually the cooked will be 3 oz, and the raw will be 4oz. But look closely...a lot of entries are mixed up because of people like you putting them in unwittingly ;-)
