I REALLY need texting buddies to keep me motivated

Options
I get migraine headaches almost everyday. Sometimes they are not bad, and I can exercise with no problem. But then a bad migraine will hit and I can't go on the treadmill for 2, 3, 4 days. After that long, it's hard to get that motivation back to start exercising again.

I really need a person or people to text me and really be motivating, but harsh. Basically be stern with me to tell me to get back on that treadmill once the migraine is over. It's really hard to me to start over after I've stopped for a few days. So I really, REALLY need help with this.

I could message you through the app to help out. I get migraines as well and I know how dibilitating they can be. I understand what you are going through.

gc- You obviously have never had a migraine. The worst you've probably had is an itty bitty headache. Imagine someone hitting you in the head non-stop with a hammer. Add uncontrolled vomiting to that also. DO YOU THINK YOU WOULD GET ON A TREADMILL IF THAT WAS HAPPENING TOO YOU????? Obviously not. If you still don't understand, I would be happy to give you a demonstration.

So Yes, in times like that I do need extra encouragement. It's easy to let the pain take over and a rational voice helps put things into perspective. That's all I'm asking for. But thanks for being an *kitten*.

If you want perspective then man up. My friends have lost arms and legs and doing all sorts of crazy exercises around the world- they don't require someone to text them for motivation.

Yes....that's pretty harsh....but true....I suffer from migraine head aches too....but if you really have your heart set to losing weight and getting healthy.....just wait till the HA subsides....take a hot bath if that helps...sip on some hot tea...and get to stepping!! :)
    Add me if you'd like....I'm a good motivator! :)

I broke my back some years ago, and the doctors and PT's where working under the assumption that I would never walk again. I did grueling physical therapy 7 hours a day. You don't have to tell me what others go through and how they make it. I made it. I saw how bad it was for them. I've been through more than you'll ever know. And by the way, this ISN'T a P__sing contest who has it the worst. We ALL have horror stories. So If I, or someone else in here asks for just a little motivation, who the hell are you to talk down to them and tell them to f--- off? You have some anger issues my friend.

Have you tried being active with your statuses? When I'm not super busy I go over them and add an encouraging word where I can. For me it has meant alot that there could be people that can draw inspiration from my efforts (I keep my diary open).
On EXTREMELY rare occasions I get a migrane (my wife more often), so bad it affects my eyesight.
Add me, if you feel you really need it we can exchange numbers so you can check in with me.

I think they are being harsh like you asked them to be to try to motivate you? Also it's a bad idea to give out or get numbers through this site. I would stick to messaging through the app.... you never know when a profile is fake.

Grow up and stop looking for people to hold your hand just to get you on a treadmill. either you want to exercise and eat correctly and lose weight or don't.

Okay, so here is where I get lost (because I have had migraine headaches and I am thankful that they are not frequent). You are coming here basically asking for people to text you to motivate you and when someone tells you to grow up and take responsibility for your own life, you call them a *kitten* and say they don't understand that you are physically unable to get on a treadmill.

How exactly are you expecting a text message to get you on a treadmill if you are physically unable to? If this is a limitation you have, then you need to learn to work around it because even if you do get people to text you, you're still not going to get on that treadmill. And then you're going to blame them.

Eat at a deficit. Add exercise when you are physically able to. Take responsibility for your own life.

I didn't realize that reaching out for a little support was considered whining.

    So anyway, yup. Got it.

The thing about reaching out for support is you need to have a clear idea of what you need. From your post, it's really not clear if you need some encouragement (and it looks like you have some offers) or if you expect people to be accountable for you (which is how your post reads). I, along with other posters are asking how you expect this messaging to be helpful, especially since you have expressed some very clear and real physical limitations you have which text messaging cannot fix.

At least from where I come from, this is not a personal attack. It's some tough love and an opportunity for reflection from other people who have had to overcome obstacles to get to their goals. I'm sorry if it reads otherwise.

Just ignore him. You'll find a lot of brats like that who don't understand we are not all built the same way.

The good news is you can lose weight with no exercise at all. And I don't know you, but I bet you probably don't feel like eating while you're suffering a migraine. Exercise is really good for you in a lot of different ways, but it isn't necessary for weight loss.

Now with that said, can you find a different form of exercise? If it's the steps that hurt, maybe a bike or an elliptical would work better, or walking outside on dirt or grass. Resistance bands work inside. Etc.

PunkRockGoth, the last thing Im looking for is anyone taking responsibility for me. Just as a back ground, I broke my back and was told i would be paralyzed. i always told myself that wasn't going to happen and and I fought like hell, and he I am walking. When I got cancer, I was told I might die. I never believed it, and again I fought like like hell and here i am alive. This right here should be a cake walk, I know. but for some reason, I am having a struggle. This is MY journey, no one else. I don't see how asking for someone to message me and say, Hey, have you made it today? If you haven't really try to do it".

Everyone has struggles in life, and i don't believe for one minute that people aren't helped, even those in this forum, when gives get a little encouragement.

I'm so sorry you get migraines. They are sooo debilitating. I used to get them so often - the can't open your eyes kind. I really have not gotten many in the past two years. I am not sure if it's just that my sleep is so much better now, or that I made so many changes in what I eat - cutting sugar, etc., or what, but I will say that diet and exercise seemed to help eliminate my migraines. I feel like this sounds cliche or like I'm trying to pitch some magic potion and I most definitely am not.

Just that if you do stay on track and look at your nutrition and it actually does help reduce migraines, it will probably be motivating to keep on it. General diet changes, keeping up regular exercise, and making time for quality SLEEP, seemed to help significantly reduce my migraines. But I know many factors contribute, many out of our control.

Regardless, it's always hard to get back into it after being away for a few days. Especially if you are dealing with any kind of that lovely "migraine hangover" feeling. You almost just have to do it without thinking about it - the bandaid approach - just jump back in quick like pulling off a bandaid. Also, on your first day back, you can tell yourself you don't have to kill your workout - just get yourself there and get your body moving. Because once you're there, you're there. And maybe it's enough just to get your body moving that first day back. But sometimes that is just the hardest part, getting there. Once you're there, it's almost like, okay I'm here, I might as well do something productive.

@leaninsc I'm actually in the middle of one of those migraines right now. I'm on a steroid to break it up. It was the change in barometric pressure that did it for me this time. This is my third day just laying in bed because I can't lift my head.
I want to get on the treadmill tomorrow, but I don't think I want to push it, so I'm thinking I might just do some resistance bands IF my head allows me to stand up for more than 5 minutes. The last thing I want to do is prolong this headache by any real exertion.
I won't even bother to list all the triggers for my migraines. I've had them for 30 years, since I was a child. Plus I see a headache specialist at one of the best headache centers in the country. I wish it was just sleep and food. But everyone on my mother's side of the family is plagued with these. And the one thing I could never have accounted for was the chemo I received when I got cancer. It was after my chemo that my migraines became daily. You have to figure that is poison being pumped into you, so I'm just convinced that it wreaked havoc on my body and made my migraines....I don't even know the right word to use for it. Uncontrollable maybe? Anyway, I try to do the best that I can, and do what I can when the headaches aren't too high on the pain scale. Most of the time it's ok. Most weeks I actually can get on the treadmill 4-5 days a week. I would like to be on 7 days a week, because I'm actually LESS hungry when I go on the treadmill, and that is JUST FINE with me :) So that is my goal, I know it's not realistic. 5-6 days might be more realistic. So that is what I will strive for.
