How does a person log a Power 90 strength training workout?

Hello all,

I've recently joined myfitnesspal in order to more easily track my nutritional data and want to incorporate the workouts I've been doing. I'm very happy with site and the functionality here.

I'm doing Power 90 for general fitness and am in 3-4 phase of the progam. I haven't yet figured out how to add my workout for tracking here on myfitnesspal. I use a heart rate monitor so I have an idea how many calories I burn during both the cardio workout and the strength workout. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I just ordered that! When i did 30 day shred and use my HRM, I put it in circuit training but write in my own numbers (which are usually lower) If I just did cardio circuits as I do with a Power Walk DVD, I just put it under aerobics and again write in my own numbers. It defaults but you can take them out.
Good luck...I hope I like the program. I was told the beginning was easy but you can speed it up a little and that Tony is funny and motivating.

    Debraran1,

Thanks for that lead! I've done just that - add two workouts under cardio, one for the 'circuit' workout and one for the 'sculpt' workout. Each day, after I've done my workout I input my HRM calories burned. So far I really like the way myfitnesspal works.

I really really like power 90. As an office working 51 year old father of two elementary school aged kids I found myself getting progressively in worse physical shape, just chugging through life, getting the kids to up, fed, to school, after school pick-up, sports, etc...then dinner, homework etc etc. I'm sure every parent out there understands some version of the routine. Getting to a gym on a regular basis didn't fit well into our family's schedule. Nor did bicycling, my 'old' sport. Power 90 has allowed me to exercise regularly again and I see clear and measurable results. I find Tony Horton funny, even a bit goofy, but also a very good motivator. I found I needed phase 1-2 just to reacclimate to exercise on a regular basis. I'm also really counting calories and watching what I eat - on the diet plan included with Power 90. So far very very good results. That is how I came to find myfitnesspal. I was writing everything down manually, which was slow and laborious, when my wife suggested I find 'an app for that'. And here I am. I'm not certain what fitness program I'll do after Power 90, but I'm sure I'll do one (Power 90 Master Series?). I hope you find it as positive a workout routine as I have, and I wish you much success with it.

I know the feeling, I have a 10.00 a month membership to a gym but rarely go because of my schedule with the kids and home/work. I started doing DVD's (Jillian and some others) but needed a change, some variety and progression.

I heard the masters series used by many who did Power 90, not all wanting to go to the PX series. I did pullups etc at the gym many years ago and don't care to do that again...I just want to be in shape, look better, feel better (a biggie) and not get hurt.
I work in an Ortho office and know what people can do to their knees. : )

I should get it tomorrow or Wednesday...can't wait to start. Do you just do the 30 minute DVD or can you add another if you have time one day?

I always knew MFP gave high numbers to the calories and like putting in my own. I don't follow a diet of sorts, but try to keep my calories down to 1200 or within 200 or that and when I cheat (birthday/buffet dinner etc) I just adjust my diet/exercise to balance it.

Yes, I just do the DVD workout videos. When I was in phase 1-2 I probably could have done an additional workout, maybe some light cardio or something, but at least for me, the DVDs were enough. Now in phase 3-4 I wouldn't add anything extra. When I fully apply myself to the workouts (doing, or trying to do, the max's of 15 or 20 reps/set) I'm pretty spent at the end and need the remainder of the day for recovery. I too just want to feel better, more energetic. I have no aspirations of being some 'Arnold Schwartzenager'. I just want to be able to keep up with my kids, have fun, etc.

On the diet - you'll get a nutricional guide as part of Power 90. For me the guidelines have worked well. It's surprising how many calories I could consume (of clean, healthy foods) and continue to lose weight (I don't have a large amount to lose). I was surprised to find during the mid portion of phase 1-2 that by eating well below the guidelines for calories my weight loss stalling - my body went into 'starvation mode'. I was quite annoyed. When I added more calories into my diet (but still below the daily guideline) my weight loss resumed. Amazing. I've really cut out most of the junk food in my diet. Every few days I'll have a small ice cream after dinner, but all of the chips, crackers, pretzels, cheese, burgers, and cookies are out. You'll see in the Power 90 nutricion guide something called Michi's ladder, a 5 tiered listing of foods. The top tier is leafy greens, legumes, etc. The bottom tier is super fatty, decadent foods. By and large I've been able to keep myself in the top two tiers. Every so often I'll dip into one of the lower teirs. In the past my wife and I have done WW and the South Beach diet. This diet/nutricional guide + Power 90 has been SO much more effective. I'm losing weight and building muscle mass. I heartily endorse following it. I know each of us is different - just listen to your body and energy levels.

Oh - do I hear you on the ortho stuff. I have a right side abdominal hernia, I've had two arthoscopies on my right knee (medial miniscus), and I'm working through a left heal plantar fasciitis. Ugh. But I'm loving Power 90 and hate missing a workout - it's been so positive for me.

    All the best,

Thanks, I look forward to getting the box tomorrow, will update as I have it a few days.

I'm been eating better and although haven't lost my desire for certain junk foods, don't crave the chips, etc. the way I used it. I hope it gives me more ideas for healthy eating.

Thanks for the tips. I will give it my all and hope to keep up family and the dog in the months to come. ; )
