Ladies who lift, light bleeding when doing barbell squats

Hi
I have a question on behalf of my wife. She's not on here.
When she does barbel squats or deadlifts or anything that puts a lot of pressure on her core she gets light bleeding. Is that normal?
Would a kidney belt help? She squats 80kg (176lbs).
Thanks
Chris

I would get it checked out by your doctor. There are too many variables for an online forum to advise you/her.

I'll tell her thanks1

Is it around period or ovulation? Is blood red or brown? Is it spotting?
Brown would be old blood and less bothersome
And I agree with getting it checked
It's never happened to me TBH1 -
I have no idea about the rest but yes, it is spotting.0

Does she have an IUD? If so, it way be 'poking' into the uterine wall when lifting and causing bleeding.

No she doesn't.0 -
Could she be pregnant? This happened to me when I was pregnant and I had to stop lifting for 9 months.
Although it may not be a big deal, I don't think it's super common or normal, so she should definitely follow up with her GYN.0 -
I'm not even near your wife's lifting abilities but I spot near my period time when I lift things that are too heavy. Usually the week before my period same with my coworker granted we have worked with each other for so long we are on the same cycle. LOL0

She should definitely get it checked out by a Dr. I'd also make sure she's pushing "out" not "down" if she's doing valsalva.0

Valsalva is what it's called when you hold your breath and brace while lifting. It helps protect the spine although it also temporarily increases blood pressure so some individuals shouldn't do it. Most people do it naturally when trying to lift something heavy. However, when some people brace their core the tend to press down like when pooping, but this can lead to bad things in the pelvic floor area (hemorrhoids, prolapse, etc). If you brace "out" like getting ready to be sucker punched it's better all around.5

Thanks for that description.
I was trying to think how to describe the tensing/downward push- couldn't. Glad it has a name.

Never happened to me. I agree with others that she should go to a doctor/general practitioner. However, stress urinary incontinence--or a little bit of pee-- is something that happens to some women during heavy squats or deadlifts.1

I potty my pants a little sometimes during a really heavy lifting (1 RM back squat 180lbs) but I've had 2 children I'm prepared for such things, but bleeding or spotting, out of sequence can not be a good thing!!! For reference I've been lifting 2 +yes now and I'm a woman0

I'd get it checked out. I wouldn't think it's a good thing.0

Thank you very much0

i've had this happen occasionally too. with all the talk about how heavy lifting does this and that to various hormones, i just shrugged it off. and i guess if it were an issue i would know about it by now, since i started lifting two years ago.1

Absolutely have it checked out...may be nothing, but PLEASE be smart and safe about it.1

Just an update. My wife went to see her gynecologist and it seems she damaged her pelvic floor with the heavy lifting.
Months of recovery, no heavy lifting and possibly an operation ahead.2 -
