Anybody have a pre workout energy drink they love?

I want something with very little to no calories.

We currently use c4 by cellucor and it works great, but we have been using in a long time and I wondered if anything fabulous has come onto the market that I need to know about.

Why do you need a pre workout? Is it because everyone else is doing it?

The boyfriend and I use MusclePharm Assault and it has 10 calories. The punch and arctic blue raspberry are good but I got cherry limeade this time and I don't really like it. I only use 1/2 a scoop.

Not sure if this is a thing since that's all I've ever used but I don't get a crash from it if that matters. I used to take half a caffeine pill in the mornings and I would always crash after that but not with the MP Assault.

I drink Energize every day, it has a nice lemon-lime flavor I love and it works super quick.

So wish I liked coffee. Especially since I live in a country where coffee is famous! Costa Rica....

Very legitimate question. People worked out for years without taking C4 or some other magical powder before.

I agree with @ninerbuff , determine why you feel the need to take something and fix the root problem.

I know very few people who actually need or substantially benefit from taking a pre-workout...the only people I know who actually need and substantially benefit from them are athletes who are training as their job, not just going in for a solid workout.

Sugar free or low calorie energy drinks. My favourites are the Base energy drinks that contain electrolytes.

If I don't have those, just coffee and some carbs.

It takes me a while to wake up in the morning and one of my workouts is morning. I like a pick me up and I don't drink coffee. That's it. And I don't to have extra calories or food as it bothers me right before a workout and A drink does not.

Then purchase 200 mg caffeine pills. That's basically what is in pre workouts anyway and it's not even 1/3 of their cost.

Yea, the exact reason! I woke up and said, hey, everyone is jumping off a bridge, I should too! Rolling my eyes.

This jumping off a bridge I could never understand. When I was a kid, 12ish or thereabouts, we had a summer place in Highlands, NJ across the bay from Sandy Hook State Park, now part of the Federal Park System, Gateway National Park. Well from the mainland to Sandy was an Old Draw Bridge.

One time recently, (recently being a term of art) I took my family, wife, daughter and Mom, for dinner at Moby's Seafood at the base of that bridge. Now the bridge has since been replaced as you can't go there and recreate the scene.

While having dinner on the dock overlooking the river there should happen to be some young gentlemen jumping off said bridge into the river. My Mom, upset at such behavior ask what kind of parents these boys must have that they would behave such. To which I reply, "be carful with your criticism as you would be among those parents":.

Well, the look I got. You mean you jumped off that bridge? Yep. When? when I was twelve, or so, just like those kids. Well, she says, I have half a mind... At which point I reminded her that I drove and if she would like a ride home...

So, anyway, from the time I was twelve and thereafter, whenever either parent said " and if your Friends were going to jump off a bridge..." It was real hard keeping a straight face and not replying "Yeah, I'm right there with them". ;-) Been there, done that.

I'm sorry. Why do we need a pre workout?

This.......pre workout is so overused in the fitness industry. If you need an energy boost to get through your workout then you are not RECOVERING properly (or are training harder than you should be).

If it takes you awhile to get moving in the morning, as your above post states - then you should focus on getting your sleep cycles figured out. If you've been working out in the mornings for a few weeks you should have broken the habit and you probably aren't getting enough high quality sleep, which is why you can't get moving without a boost.

Errr, why not just try WATER!!!!???? Get hydrated before you go - work like a Trojan because of it.
And it comes out a TAP!! So it's really really CHEAP too.

Optimum Essential Amino energy. I damn near buy it in bulk! you can use it threw out the day or increase servings as a pre workout. It uses small size servings so you can manipulate it to meet your needs. Lower caffeine per serving too which A. gives you room to adjust serving size for your needs. B. caffeine supplies an energy boost (obviously) and C. too much caffeine actually dehydrates and can cause a crash. This supplies an ideal amount
Plus it comes in a TON of flavors

I like N.O.-Xplode. I've been using it for years. Started with the original. Then they came out with "NT" and I didn't like that. But the newest stuff is pretty good. I also use Cellmass (creatine) with it. I like the combo for building muscle.

I make my own. Take a 200mg caffeine pill. Mix 10 oz water with 1 tsp l-glutamine, 5g creatine and a little bit of gatorade powder.

I'm still using C4 Blue Raspberry as a replacement for the massive amounts of energy drinks I used to consume. However, as a legit PWO, in my opinion, it's kind of hard to beat MusclePharm Assault. Some have tested better, but I have no experience with those.

I don't use pre-workout supplements, but looking at C4 most are just creatine, caffeine, l-arganine, vitamin c and vitamin B12. I do use a fitness powder post-workout to recover electrolytes and energy though [it has everything that C4 has besides the creatine and l-arganine] and it's a lot cheaper [10 servings for $2].

I use to take pre-workout, then resorted to coffee. Now? Nothing really, just a good meal 2 hrs prior to working out. I'll be honest, that stuff plays mental games on you. You'll find that when you don't take it, you feel like you can't make it but not true, just mind games. Now I'm doing fine with nothing but fuel from a good meal.

AGREED!! (Though, before anyone notices, I think you have dropped a little strawberry jam from your morning toast down your top. I'm sure if you change quickly no-one will be any the wiser!)
