Many times I'll hear the opinion that people who overeat are compensating for something missing from their lives. And we're urged to find "the real problem." Maybe I just really love to eat. I love the taste of food and I don't have to "binge" or even overeat much to gain weight...it's just my personal metabolism. Why is there the idea that there's some underlying problem I'm not addressing? For some people I'm sure there is an underlying problem, but I just don't believe that is true for everyone. Pizza's good, man!!!

I couldn't agree more. I am not compensating and am emotionally healthy and emotionally mature. If I were still in my twenties, it might be a different story. I have dealt with a lot of trauma in my life both physically and emotionally, but I have moved past it. I just like to eat and sometimes have a drive to do so. I can't binge much anymore because I get full. However, I tend to think it is my un-evolved genetic makeup preparing me for that famine, which will likely never happen that pushes me to like eating so much.

This thread seems like it's compensating for something.
