Dear God help... Menopause

I find it MORE than extremely hard to lose weight during peri (or) menopause. I hear you can get hormones by going to an endocrinologist. Does anyone have ideas for a little help in weight loss and basically feeling better.

Get a check up by your doctor to rule out any underlying illness. If you have one, take the medications prescribed. Have them reassessed every 10 lbs you lose.
Ask about HRT.
Cardio, can help with hot flashes, I found Aqua fit and swimming were the best for me as it kept my body temp down.
Cardio, along with a calorie deficit, will help reduce visceral fat. This will help some towards hormone equalization.
Losing weight is no harder during the menopause years than it is at any other time.
Your metabolism does not plummet, it has been reducing since your early 20's at an average rate of 50-100 cals a decade (depending on gender, height, and weight). Keeping active can help off set some of this decline but not all.
Muscle loss through inactivity can be countered by doing some kind of resistance work.
A lot of women have their hunger/satiation levels disrupted by their hormonal changes, be aware of this.
Enter your stats into MFP, aim for a reasonable loss.
Weigh all your food with a digital scale, liquids with cups and spoons.
Do cardio and strength training for your health. Eat back 50-75% of those calories- you need fuel to exercise effectively without it impeding on your everyday life.
Make it as simple as possible and be aware of how your body is reacting.
Cheers, h.

maca root helps me. not for weight loss but for hot flashes and energy. I also take triphala and probiotics for digestion.

I second the recommendation to get checked by a doctor.
Personally, I'm tackling perimenopause entirely without hormones because I can't take hormones ... they'll kill me. So I'm on my own. Lots of research.0
