So I thought buckwheat soba noodles were supposed to be about half the cals of regular noodles. I went to the Asian market yesterday and all of them said about the same - 190 cals for 2 oz dry. This is about the same as regular noodles. Do the soba noodles cook up the be more, meaning 2 oz of dry soba noodles yields almost two cups cooked (where for reg pasta 2 oz dry gives about 1 cup cooked)?? Any insight would be helpful. Thanks.

Why did you think soba noodles are only half the calories of regular pasta? There isn't any insight to be given. The calories are the same, as you found out, and soba noodles don't "cook up more."

I'm guessing that you heard that buckwheat noodles are healthier than normal noodles.

This might well be true, but it isn't down to a calorie difference!!

    healthy doesn't mean low calorie.

This is the link I got it from:

    http://www.livestrong.com/article/255892-soba-noodles-nutrition/

    Quoted from the article:
"A cup of soba noodles has 113 calories. That compares with about 200 calories for a cup of white-flour pasta. The calories in soba noodles still are made up mostly of carbohydrates, at 24.44 g. That compares to about 40g carbs in a cup of regular pasta. There are 5.77g protein in soba noodles and 0.11g fats. About 92 percent of the calories in the noodles come from carbs, 20 percent from protein and 1 percent from fat."

I've also seen some other posts on here about soba noodles in the past and figured that maybe there were brand differences.
