Hey there, I've done home workouts since last December. I lost my first 10lbs doing Jillian Michaels 30 day shred, level 1 and 2 are free on YouTube, I bought level 3 on Amazon instant video for 3$. After that I slacked off a bit but in March I started p90x, finished round 1 and lost around 30lbs, I'm on week 2 of my second round. Not ready to share pics as I have a long way to go but I believe you can achieve your goals at home. I suggest you get some dumbbells and do some strength training as well, it really helps shape you better than just cardio based workouts. I wish you the best on your journey!17

Hi, I do everything at home too. I invest on a treadmill, got me 2 set of hand weights and do videos from YouTube . I had lost 22 lbs in 2 and a half months. So it is possible you just have to put your mind to it.
I actually like it better bc I can just jump on the treadmill whenever I want to and do 10-15 min. at the time. At the end of the day it ads up.
Good luck15 -
I use fitnessblender.com there is a lot of free videos to choose. Good luck!12

I haven't been to the gym once since starting my new healthy lifestyle. I've watched videos on YouTube by fitness blender and Jillian Michaels. And I walk and jog for 30-45 mins. I now have a DVD by Jillian Michaels that I watch, each workout is 20 mins long and I still go for walks and jog. I do plan on going to the gym one day, but until I'm comfortable enough to I'm fine with working out at home. And yes I've lost weight doing it. 61 lbs so far!30

I do all home workouts and just reached 40 pounds lost! I started in April with a standing bike. Over the months I have added 5 pound dumbbells, 5 pound kettle bell and a set of resistance bands. All in all I have spent about 300 dollars on equipment. I also utilize my local tracks (I am lucky, I have 3 in a two mile radius) to get in a wall run everyday. I devout anywhere from 30 minutes to an hour for a workout and try to workout twice a day. All in all I am so glad I never got a gym membership.

I have set foot in the gym once to workout since I started in January and that was to help a friend get certified for teaching a new group class.
I did a lot of Fitness blender workouts in the beginning, then started You Are Your Own Gym. Last month I started Strong Curves at home. I've had to buy a fair amount of equipment: bench, step, dumbells, bar & plates, resistance bands...but it's all been worth every penny though since I hate the gym lol.
I've lost 42lbs so far and am 3lbs from my goal.15 -
Thx all !0

I just recently started being able to do you tube workouts to Shauna Kathleen Barre work really AWESOME, Bob Harper - love love love him, some Fitness Blender - they are still quite boring to me, one Jillian Michaels she's to tough, GymRa- I really like- Chris Powell I LOVE him to the moon and back but only found 3, and XHIT really on point. I belong to a gym but haven't gone in a while will use it to build muscle again. And I walk and jog 45min. some days.
I have lost in a year 50lbs. so far. I have another 110lbs. to lose.7 -
I do home only workouts (plus walking and recently started jogging) since October and I am down 62lbs.
I have done 21day fix workouts, T25 and currently doing P90. You don't need a gym10 -
I am terrible in attending gyms. So I built a circuit at home.
It consists of:
Sit ups, push ups ...
Dumbbell arms raises in various directions
Resistance bands
Barbell raises.
It takes 30 min each day and gets me sweating .
I have abs from it and toned arms.
I run and cross country ski for cardio.

Certainly don't need a gym! I started out doing MaxT3 workouts, I've lost almost 65 pounds doing that, mixing in walking/running, weights, and just started Jillian Michaels 30 day shred. It can be done!7

I've lost nearly 50 lbs working out at home. I do have a substantial amount of equipment. Pairs of Dumbells up to 50 lbs, a barbell that accomodates lower weights, and olympic barbell and weights, a bench, bodylastics bands, stability ball, etc. I use a lot of Cathe Friedrich DVDs and have started to venture into programs posted on bodybuilding.com. I'd say, do what you can, invest in new equipment slowly, eat fewer calories than you burn and you should have success. There are a lot of good suggestions on this thread Best of luck to you!5

Fitnessblender, Jessica Smith, Popsugar for me. (And whatever else pops up that I like! I like variety.) I do 30 or more minutes a day, usually. Sometimes I add in a short video or two from Blogilates, but I prefer all-in-one videos that include a warm-up and cool down. I have some dumbbells, a physio ball, and a yoga mat, but you can do a lot of these with no equipment. I like to throw in some easy yoga, too - usually Yoga With Adriene. This approach has worked so well for me; no way would I get to a gym every day, and this is free and super-convenient. I enthusiastically endorse it!5

I've been doing workouts at home since starting my journey. I'm down 37 pounds. I do fitness DVDs and search stuff on youtube. I don't feel comfortable exercising at the gym because I feel like I'm being criticized so I don't bother. I'm sure nobody is paying attention to me but that's how I feel. You can be successful at home if you stay consistent and put in the work.6

I just found yoga with a drin and I like it but I am on my 3rd attempt an's not through day 1...I get a bit farther each day and won't five up.
I have a pool and have been swimming and doing my own version of aqua fit. and just starting home weight lifting. I am down 40 pounds. I was walking before the heat came and will go back to walking in the fall. Jillian in tje winter. I get bored easy so I try and switch it up.
I'm feeling a bit like not exercising last couple days but that's the first time since I started my 7 I am enjoying home workout4 -
I started in late March, using a generic WW Points system and I walk a mile a day. Doesn't sound too exciting a plan but I'm 56 and have lost 30 pounds. I've slacked last few weeks due to vacation (no gains yay...), so I'm back to my spreadsheet and walking my dog. Hope to be down another 15 by end of Oct.4

100% try FitnessBlender on Youtube. They have so much variation you really can't get bored!
I have been using their videos for 30-40 minutes 3-4 times a week since the start of May and have noticed huge improvements in my fitness. I've also lost 1 stone 7lbs and FINALLY started to lose my stubborn arm fat!
My usual weekly plan is:
Monday: Cardio or HIIT video
Wednesday: Legs with weights/body weight
Friday: Arms with weights
Sunday: Abs and cardio
(ps. I do also walk at least an hour a day - when I start driving I will likely add in another workout to my week)3 -
I've only ever done home workouts and have had great success. The key is nutrition, so if you can dial that in, the workouts will only add to your success. I did the Jillian Michaels workouts with success and am now onto the 21 day fix workouts and they are great.
Good luck! You've got this!3 -

how do you like "you are your own gym" i'm starting this week and nervous about it a bit.0 -
Thank you guys
You all inspired me a lot !
I've been doing fitness blender for 3 days now and feel great!
Im in my last 10 lbs to loose but because i never ever excersized through my journey i feel that i could've look so much better... I have a couple of friends that weigh the same as me same height and look 10lbs less. They both go to gym 5 times a week , so I felt that im just a smaller fat person lol even though i lost 45 lbs , i dont have a defined body ...what kinds of work outs should i do ?
Im into HIIT now but not sure if thats what i need ( note : i do not own any equipment)
Thx ur all amazing ppl :-)2 -
@jessiferrrb I did enjoy You Are Your Own Gym quite a bit. Just wanted to do heavy lifting instead, so I switched over to Strong Curves. I still do some bodyweight exercises daily, and have even progressed a bit more than I thought I would.1

That's great! Make sure you get your form down correctly before adding any real weight to the bigger lifts (deadlifts, squats, benches and overhead's). Don't want to injure yourself1 -
I have been working out at home for the past 4 years and would not go to the gym. Some things to consider that I have found really helped me.
1) Find a consistent time.
I found morning worked best as I could always dedicate that time to working out. Where-as evening would always tend to get co-opted by kids activities, wife, work, etc, etc.
2) Find a good (preferably dedicated) space.
When I first started out I was using my bedroom with a bench and powerblock dumbells. They made a fair bit of noise so I would tend to stop early as my wife would get annoyed. Then I moved to the den but again needed to be quiet to avoid waking the kids and would have to pack everything away after each use. Then to the garage which worked pretty well but was cold and added a layer of challenge to starting in the morning. I have since set up in the basement (since kicking our tenants out) and have a dedicated space always set up which is awesome. Compliance is way up since I found that.
3) Make a plan and have some options.
I started out just working out on my own using a 4 day split. Inevitable if I was going to skip a day it would be legs (which I still hate). I then did P90X but it was a serious time commitment which made it unsustainable past the 90 days for me. I moved on to Kettlebells using the AOS-Providence DVD which was great for me, full body workout and only 45min per workout. which I did 3x per week for about a year. Then moved to do more Yoga with a Rodney Yee video, harder kettlebells with AOS-Newport, and self created weight workout with the app "fitnotes". I find I need to switch things up every 3-4 months or I get a bit bored and lose motivation. I now have a good selection of DVD workouts and try to slot in 1-kettlebell, 1-flexibility/yoga, and 1-weight focus a week and then have a floater that is a choice. I like the DVDs because they always seem to push me harder than I would push myself. I hate Tony Horton's stupid jokes so watch with the sound off when I do any P90X videos.
4) Get some instruction
Form is critical to working out. I hurt myself when starting out with kettlebells and got training from both my kinesiologist, Physio and from an certified instructor. No more issues.
5) Log your workouts.
Just like logging your weight loss, logging how you are improving (higher weights, less rest, more reps, etc) is good to highlight progress and keep you motivated. Remember fitness goals are different from weight loss. Measure your resting heart rate, your recovery time and endurance. These tend to be where you see gains from working out. Weight loss is done in the kitchen, the scale is no measure of fitness.
6) Set aside some money each month for new equipment.
A home gym is cheaper in the long run but dumbells, kettlebells, mats, DVDs, Barbells, benches, racks, etc, etc all cost money which can seem more expensive in the short term. Personally I set aside $20/month. Started with the powerblocks, then added a bench and mat, then P90X DVDs, then a single kettlebell, then 3 more kettlebells , Have my eye on a squat rack and Olympic bars and weights now. Probably have about $2000 worth of equipment now but lots of these are birthday and Christmas gifts.
Keep it up, after a few months you will feel awful when you don't workout.6 -
I've never been to the gym, and I lost weight and strengthened muscle all with home workouts (check out my profile pic). I have Jari Love DVD's she is awesome, tapout xt, ufc fit, and bodybeast. Next I'm going to purchase Cathe Frederick Lift it Hiit it program, it's Hiit combined with lifting heavy weights. As long as your consistent and eat well you can do it!0

Yes! Yes! I love Leslie! I started doing them just 'cause I had fun but I didn't really think they were gonna do much but I was soooo wrong if you are looking to lose weight or if you are new to working out that's the way to go or if you think you are not in the mood to workout just go for it, no equipment, nothing, just yourself, before you know it you will be totally into it.
At the moment I'm completely in love with Focus T25

My husband is on call when he isn't out at work so I literally can't leave him with the children...ever. So I've started 30 day shred combined with a 1300 calorie goal and 8 hour window for eating (to stop my evening snacking!). Hoping it works!6
