Vivosmart HR jogging and MFP mileage question

Why does my garmin say one thing and when I sync to MFP It says another? For example garmin says I averaged 10.30 per mile and MFP says I averaged 11.5 per mile. Also how accurate is Garmin when it comes to tracking a mile? I jog a trail that has mile markers and it seems like Garmin or the trail is off because it's suppose to be a 2 Mile trail but it ends at 1.5 miles and my garmin says it is longer. I'm new to jogging so just trying to find out which would more likely be accurate. Thanks for any feedback that anybody can offer.

The Garmin VivoSmart HR does not have GPS [or GLONASS] chip in it. So it doesn't know exactly how far you went. The most accurate way to do it, using the VivoSmart HR by it self, would be to plug in your stride distance and it will calibrate it based of your cadence.

Or if you're wanting to keep everything in the Garmin Connect Eco System use an app called Wahoo Fitness Tracker. It has a GPS tracking for speed, pace, distance. And you can connect it to a BT or ANT+ HRM, Such as the one on your VivoSmart HR [in broadcast mode] and you can push the data to Garmin Connect so everything is in one place.

I have a vivofit 2 and I can put in my stride length, ie I do 132 strides per 100 metres. I also picked up a tip for cycling and activities. Strap the device to your ankle for the ride so it doesn't think you are not doing anything, its not massively accurate however at least it measures some activity. This can also be applied to other activities too.
