Letting one rip in the gym...

Sometimes when I'm doing decline sit ups and pull ups I'll accidentally squeeze one out and it's really embarrassing. The decline bench is in a wide open space in the centre of my gym so I'm pretty sure everyone from all around can hear. It happens unexpectedly, even when I don't feel any signs like pressure. I'm just wondering if this is a regular occurrence or if it happens to a lot of you. I want to hear your stories. Do you abstain from certain exercises at the gym because you're afraid of embarrassment?

Unless you're making someone's eyes water with the smell of the 3 days of chilli, tandoori chicken and garlic foccacia you've been eating, I doubt beyond a bit of a smirk, no one cares. I mean, it's a natural bodily function. For me, after being the 160kg obese woman who cracked the seat on a rowing machine (thankfully, I'm no longer that weight, and can use a rowing machine without fear of embarrassment), a fart could never be embarrassing.
You should also go to a yoga class. Some of the poses turn a room into a trumpet recital.

I sometimes fart during squats and deadlifts. If there's anyone around, I just shrug and say, "sorry, whatcha gonna do?" If not, I say, "who's da man?"8

95% of the people in the gym wear headphones, plus there is subtle music playing throughout the gym and people talking or grunting or slamming weights. When I walk in, I'm prepared to be smacked in the face with the stench of sweat and B.O.; a fart would just add a little variety in the mix. Don't be self conscious!10

Suffice to say, they cleared out pretty quick which allowed me to get my assistance work done in peace.3 -

Totally agree with this. Most people, if they actually do hear you fart will have one of two mental reactions "ewh" or "lol". And unless you keep farting smelly farts, 10 sec. later they'll get over it and keep doing their thing.

If I can't smell it, I just laugh. The worst than can happen is you'll be that farty guy at the gym. Everybody toots.0

I'm saying this to all the men out there: PLEASE BE CAREFUL WHEN YOU'RE INJURED! I'm saying this to the men because for some crazy reason men like to ignore their bodies when they're hurting. I've heard too many stories of people having very minor problems turn into very major problems because they couldn't be cautious with their workouts when something was wrong. I don't want any of you to get hurt0 -

Thanks. I will keep it in mind, because I have no interest in my own welfare.1 -

Squarts are an important biofeedback mechanism that let you know you are squatting with adequate intensity.6

I fart as often as humanly possible and laugh about it every time. The best part is when you let out a silent but violent and wait patiently until it enters someone near you's nostrils and they are disgusted. Win.2
