How many of you lost weight JUST WALKING!!!

I go to the gym at least 6 days a week, would like to go everyday, but sometimes life happens. Anyhow - I usually just walk on the treadmill for anywhere between 45-60 min. I use an incline - Lowest is 3.0, highest is 12.0 and speed between 3.0-3.7. Not seeing numbers on the scale move and clothes aren't really doing much, but it's only been about a month and I've lost about 7 lbs. Will walking be enough for awhile? I would like to burn off some fat before hitting anything else too hard :) Thanks a bunch. You are all really very helpful to me and I plan on sticking to this. I am seeing my pal Mickey Mouse next summer and want to look great in photos LOL!!

7lbs in a month is right where you should be. What @Lizarking means is that you don't HAVE to exercise at all to lose weight. Weight loss is more about what you eat than exercise. I used to run 20 miles a week and still gained weight because my diet was crap. I lost most of my weight when I wasn't exercising at all....just sticking to a calorie deficit.

Walking is a great exercise. It's plenty, especially if that's what you enjoy.

Walking is enough for a while. Once your body adapts find something new and fun to do like biking, basketball, etc. I would suggest incorporating strength training in on top of it. Maximize that membership and maintain and even gain some muscle and strength

You lose weight by eating fewer calories than you burn. This can be done even if you do no purposeful exercise at all. Exercise is still good for you, because it makes you stronger, builds endurance, improves cardiovascular health, etc. But yes, walking can be perfectly good exercise all by itself. That's been the bulk of my exercise for the last 4 years or so.

So long as you don't consume too many calories, of course you can. (I consumed too many calories while walking several hilly miles every day, which is why I'm here!)

I lost the first 70 pounds by walking (and of course, tracking calories). I started out at 20 minutes a day and just kept increasing speed, time and incline as it got easier. Eventually, I did C25K, and now I run 15-20 miles a week and I truly feel that all the walking I did to prep made the transition to running much easier. And I still walk every day on my lunch break and at home after work to unwind with some Netflix on the treadmill.

I tried, but it didn't work. I have to do workouts with some kind of resistance to get results.

I can't run anymore due to knee problems in college. I walk 6 days a week and have lost a lot of weight. I really have noticed it in my clothes fitting better and the bloating is gone. I walk about 3.0 or a little faster to up beat music on Pandora and that really helps. I love walking. I do it at at 6:30am every morning to jump start my day. And it helps with depression too. Rather than taking a lot of meds. LOL. I walk in rain, sleet and know, as the mail men say. As long as your burning more calories than your taking in than you'll loose weight. Weight resistance working is a must though. Need to build muscle which does weigh more than fat.

I lost the first 2/3 of my overfatness by walking and eating less; I added weight training and haven't looked back.

I've walked as purposeful exercise everyday since march 28th 2014 (the day i got my fitbit), I've lost weight and gained weight (1-4kgs) since then. There are many days throughout the week that i am in a 1000 calorie deficit (comparing what fitbit says my calorie burn is to my food intake), however my weight loss does NOT reflect this. So either my body isn't burning as many calories from the same amount of walking at around the same body weight as it used to, or my fitbit grossly overestimates. When i first started walking, the weight fell off, i was a few kgs lighter than i am now back then,.

40 lbs gone. Walking and watching calories. It takes both for me. I walk outside. Some days an hour, some days less, some days more. Sometimes with hills, sometimes flat. I like variety.

I am a walker. My bad back and knees make it hard to do anything high impact. Plus I can walk while working, doing weights, reading etc. My walking to loose was around 2 hours per day . But now I'm on maintenance and trying to keep up the walking time just cause it really is a great relaxation thing too

Wife and I lost 108 combined pounds, probably the first hundred we were just walking.

But at least 85 pounds were lost through diet not exercise. We used Mapmywalk with MFP and MMW reports his calories burned so it was easy to quantify.
