Gaining too much weight fast

Before I entered college I weighed around 125 lbs. I'm 5'4 1/2". My freshman year I stayed around 130lbs. Sophomore year I started increasing but I didn't notice a drastic difference until the fall of my junior year. I couldn't fit into most of my clothes- it felt all of a sudden. I feel it was partly due to the birth control but not the sole reason. I weighed 145 lbs then the spring happened and I got up to 150.. Now as im about to begin my senior year I weigh 165 lbs. And I feel miserable. I hate my body and its honestly contributing to my depression. Most of my weight is in my lower half which is typical for women in my family. I need all the help I can get... Maybe a fitness friend to keep myself motivated and focus on losing the weight instead of sulking and contributing to it. I prefer swimming workouts and dancing. But when I get the chance to go to a gym, I tend to go on the tredmil. My goal is to lose 35 lbs and keep it off. Thanks for listening to my rant!
