Severe Injury

I had less than two miles left on my 7 mile run this morning when I heard someone coming up behind me, a group of women. They were chatting, running pretty easy but gaining on me. I had run pretty conservatively (my euphemism for slogging) so I was feeling pretty good and decided to drop the hammer and see if I could keep them from passing me.

It was less than a half mile after I made that decision and I realized I just couldn't do it. They were going to pass me. Even though they were talking in relaxed tones and having a good time, I wasn't going to be able to fend them off.

As they got closer, I could hear wheels on the path. Ah! They were lollygagging on bikes, just out for an easy roll.

Uh, no. Three of the four were pushing strollers, one of which was a double and had twins. They blew by me like I was standing still.

Severely hurt my pride. I don't know if I'll ever recover.

There's something about some women with pushchairs. Anyone would think they were training for the 100m-with-kid race :D

I, too, would feel intense agony from such an injury. Right there with you, though. I took my then-fiance out "jogging" with me once; he looks like he's in way worse shape than me at about 250 pounds (I'm about 130). The first thing he said when we took off was, "Wow! If we keep going this pace I could go forever!" I had to stop and walk about 10 minutes later. I wanted to punch him but couldn't because I was too tired. Curses.

LOL, sorry for your "injury." I swear, there's something about pushing a jogging stroller that makes me go faster. A few years back I took up running again and was popping out an hour's worth of 9 minute miles even though I'm obese. Must be the wheels on the stroller.
