Should I quit my sport?

Hi I am a university soccer player and no longer enjoy playing. I am only in my second year but have not played a game and do not think i will get a chance this year. I have started to dread coming to practice and count down the minutes till its over. The only aspect I am enjoying is the intense fitness portion. I have played my whole life and have had this problem off and on. I have never quit anything in my life before, I have always prided myself in having the grit to push through hard times but I don't know if I want to push through something I truly do not enjoy anymore. The only problem is that I am scared of being seen as a "quitter" and leaving my team right before the season starts. Any opinions are welcome. Thanks!

I give you permission to explore new outlets for energetic activity. Stop sooner than later so you don't leave your team in the lurch halfway through the season.

Perhaps try a few different sports both team and solo to confirm for yourself why soccer no longer appeals to you.

Went through the same thing in my college soccer career eons ago. I did end up stopping (I don't call it quitting). I never looked back. I did some coaching later on and found that is what I really liked. There are many fitness avenues you can try. Good luck!

I don't think it is "quitting" to cease an activity which you no longer enjoy and explore other options. An advantage of being an adult is that we get to make those decisions. If people didn't give themselves that opportunity, no one would ever leave a crappy job they hate, or move to a new city or change career paths. Life is full of having to make adult decisions to do something you don't really want to. Your recreational passtimes shouldn't be one of them.
