I posted earlier that I'm currently giving up cancer sticks lol and was concerned about gaining or stalling despite continuing with my current diet and exercising routine, just to try and nip any metabolism issues in the bud right off the bat; anyone have any particular food and or drinks that have helped speed there metabolism ??? I've heard green tea and apple cider vinegar help get things on track.....

There really aren't any foods that speed up your metabolism. Exercise will though, especially resistance training.

Nothing you can eat or drink affects your metabolism. If you stick to your diet and exercise, quitting smoking won't make your weight loss stall.

This will be so much easier for you if you focus on real things and understand that lots of what we think we know, are myths; at best half-truths.

I was planning on starting to train for a 5k this fall so I'm hoping that will help speed up my metabolism and keep it working hard if not harder

Don't fall into any of the nonsense traps of things that speed up your metabolism. The only things you can take that genuinely speed up your metabolism are dangerous and illegal.

Exercise will increase your energy output (Calories out) so that will help.

Stopping cigarettes in no way shape or form will slow down metabolism. It is associated with weight gain because cigarettes decrease appetite, once you're off them you may find your appetite goes up. But it's still 100% down to you to stick to your calorie goals.

Caffeine is a mild stimulant and will help you get going with whatever exercise you decide to do. You don't have to go mad, just increase your activity a bit. (A step counter can help)
Quitting smoking will be the most sensible thing you ever do in your life and will, I hope prologue your life by a good few years. Dying of lung cancer or emphysema is a horrible end.)
You'll find you can actually taste food now, and yes your appetite for all sorts of things will improve.
In food aim for quality not quantity and I'm sure you'll be fine.

Adding muscle can speed up your metabolism. Grant it you wont gain tons in a deficit.

Op, you will also want strength training.

Loosing weight and quitting smoking can be two dual goals that might make a person batty. But if you are 100% committed after the first 10 days it is all downhill from there. There will be a mild metabolism correction (if you will) but the calories burned or effected from nicotine is not that grand.

If you exercise or are active you may not notice very much, strength training is something I highly recommend doing, but while in a calorie deficit not very much muscle mass can be put on outside of "newbie lifter gainz".

Keep active, change your routine if you need to in order to stay away from triggers.. stick to quitting, and stick to the calorie deficit and all of this is really very short lived.
