MFP is connected with UA Record on my phone. Is it an accurate way to count calories burned? I turned it on when I went for a walk and I was wondering how it can really track calories burned.

It's as good as any other method of estimating your calories expended. There are other ways, but all of them have strengths and weaknesses. The key is to pick a method and stick with it, then test and adjust how much you're compensating for calories expended as you progress.I turned it on when I went for a walk and I was wondering how it can really track calories burned.
For walking the real contributors to calories expended are your bodyweight and the distance you cover, so if the UA app is tracking with GPS it's probably more accurate than any other method, for a deliberate walk. For all day walking around some form of pedometer might be useful, you can get phone apps, but they don't account for whn you leave the phone lying or charging.
