Activity setting on MFP

I currently have my setting as sedentary because I do an office job - I average 8,000 steps per day according to Fitbit but it really does very. I work out quite a bit but I'm not letting that influence my activity setting. A that right?

Yep that sounds right. And your exercise calories are not to be included in activity settings in MFP.. so ...

If you work out "a lot" then let fitbit record your workouts and sync those to MFP. You should be netting calories which includes your exercise. At sedentary (desk job) with exercise you should for example in MFP app net calories like the example below:

Calorie GOAL = 1400 calories (just an example)

    Calories consumed: 1700 - 300 (exercise calories) = 1400 NET GOAL..

If this does not make sense, read the stickies at the beginning of the forums and it explains how exercise calories works in MFP..

Reevaluate your setting after a month. If you've been eating to the goal set for you and have lost the weight you expected, then it's right. If not, then adjust!

In the end, the numbers we are given are estimates, a starting point. Give it a go, and see how it pans out for you :)

Oolou is right. If you work out a lot you can generally eat a little more - but probably not as much as you think or the apps imply.
It's the calorie reduction that makes you lose weight. Exercise alone doesn't work so well, (though you will tone muscles).
I never eat back any exercise calories. I don't want to slow down the process. And I certainly wouldn't exercise more just to eat more.

Are you getting calorie adjustments from your fitbit?

Your calorie goal on here assumes no exercise so you should be accounting for additional exercise, it's a perfectly legitimate energy need of your body - no guilt, nothing special about them!

If you prefer to eat the same daily and just use your fitbit for motivation rather than calorie estimates then set your calorie goal using a TDEE calculator and not this site.
