How much fiber do we need?

Just having completed my first food dairy on MyFitnessPal, I notice that they put in the total fiber consumed. However, I don't see a goal for how much fiber one needs per day. Does anyone know the answer to that question.

Fibre is principally associated with efficient digestion. If you look at the nutrition section of MFP you will see a recommended daily allowance for your height and weight.
But you will know if you are not eating enough fibre, because you'll get constipation. 10g rolled oats blitzed into a morning milk shake did the trick for my diet, as it also ensured I had enough liquid and fats too.0 -
25g-30g- is recommended in the UK for an Adult. I usually get around 30g-35g as I get constipation from a medical issue and this helps clear it up!!0

I aim for at least 25 g. Here's a chart.

I clicked on your link and my virus scan picked up a virus. My virus protection removed the virus though.0 -
The Institute of Medicine's recommendations for people 50 and under is 25g for women and 38g for men. Age 51 and older is 21g for women and 30g for men.

I need to keep fibre above 30g everyday to stay regular.KWlosingit wrote: »How much fiber is too much? I seems to get an average of 35-45 per day. Is that too high?
No, that is no where near too high. I have days here and there of 60ishg.

No, I average around 9-11 cups of vegetables a day, so my fiber is usually at high 70s.

Wynterbourne is right according to USA recommendations. I would add in two pieces of advice, add fiber slowly. Don't go from 10 - 30 grams of fiber overnight. Second, have water before any major fiber.2

I will add, when possible it's best to get your fiber from natural sources like fruits and veggies rather than packaged Fiber One bars and the like.0

14 grams for every 1000 calories
