I'm shopping for a fitness band, so I can use the data from Garmin's site to import into My Fitness Pal. The Garmin Vivosmart HR+ and Vivoactive HR seem to be the best water proof options, but does anyone know how well either can calculate calories burned during water aerobics?

I don't think anything could do as there is no reliable indicator for aerobics, never mind in the water.
They'll give you a record of the HR trace, but they'll give false positives on step count.0 -
The VivóActive HR and VivóSmart HR/HR + both disable the HR monitor during swimming exercises. The VivóSmart HR(+) does have an other setting when your doing something other than cycling/running. And the VivóActive does have a Stand up Paddle board and swimming profile. But neither have a "water aerobics" profile. It's going to be a guessing game at best on either of those.1
