No Motivation

I just feel like I have no motivation to get this weight loss journey started. I have so far to go that it doesn't seem achievable. I have never weighed this much. I have 200 lbs to lose.

When I started I did two things right off the bat. I reduced my calories to the goal MFP set and I increased my activity level. The activity made me feel better after a few weeks of being more active. I actually looked forward to it. I also enjoyed the extra calories it gave me. I was dialed in at a two pound loss per week

Start slow. It isn't going to happen over night. There is no magic pill that will change your body tomorrow. Start each day with little successes: eat something healthier, take a walk, etc. Each day is an opportunity to do better. Don't look at it as 200 lbs. Start easy. Think of trying to focus on the first five pounds. Then go from there.

Don't think about losing all 200 lbs right now. Think about losing 10. Then another 10. Then another 10. Develop good habits that you can maintain.

You can either start now, or you can put it off another month, six months, a year... Then look back and realize how much time has passed without you having gotten anywhere. Start now!

Welcome! :) Motivation is overrated. When I came to MFP about a year and a half ago, I wouldn't say I was particularly motivated. I set up my profile and chose a modest weight loss goal of 1.5 lbs/week (I had 70-80 lbs to lose) and just started logging. My calorie allowance was bigger than I anticipated and I didn't have to cut back much to meet it. After a few days of hitting my numbers, I felt kind of good. Starting moving around a little, which gave my mood a boost. A few lbs started to drop off, and I *became* motivated to make some other small changes. I'm about halfway to my goal (I've actually just been maintaining the last 6 months or so before moving on again). Try not to look too far ahead or make drastic changes that might discourage you in the long run. If a year from now, you're 50 lbs lighter and your health is vastly improved, won't that be cool? There's plenty of time :)

You can't look at such a large number without feeling a bit daunted; I don't blame you. Instead of thinking of this as some sort of race towards a goal with a finish line just decide you're going to change your life for the better. After all, not gaining any more weight is an accomplishment in itself, right?

Start out by simply logging every single thing you eat and trying to stay close to the calorie goal MFP gives you to lose 2 pounds per week. That's it. You don't need to change the foods you're eating, just try to keep your daily calories close to that goal. Every day you can do that is another small step towards your ultimate goal which is to be at a healthy weight, not some specific number. Don't deprive yourself. Don't force yourself to give up the foods you really love, just eat less of them. Be more mindful of what you're eating and you'll find it's really not that difficult. If you want to start an easy exercise regimen, walk. You don't need to join a gym. Walk as far as you can and keep increasing distance as you are able. @mskessler89 has good advice about mini goals. Set up a reward schedule for yourself for every 10, 20, or 25 pounds you lose. These should be non-food rewards, of course, and they can be anything that makes you happy. A pedicure, an article of clothing in your new size, etc.

    It's all about perspective.

I started out with about 240 to lose. I lost 140, then gained back 100. Now - with current math and considering I'll need skin removal surgery, I want to lose about 150 pounds. That'll put me at about 180. Based on past experience, I was losing about 10 pounds a month - so at current projection - hopefully I'm looking at next fall to get to goal weight. I can live with 15 months-ish....I expect though it might take towards 20 and I'm ok with that too.

    Remember a few things -
1-can't save the world in a day. Don't try to Fix everything at once. Start with logging everything. Then make sure you get enough water in. Start looking at ways to make adjustments to what you're eating so that it's "food journal friendly".
2-You will stumble - because you're human. Everybody else does too. Don't sweat it and move on.
3-Set up a few appointments with a nutritionist for help on making "food journal friendly" changes to your food diary.

For what it's worth - and good luck!
