Every... thing... hurts

I have been exercising consistently for about 2 months now, and BOY DOES MY BODY HURT! (tight tight tight trapezius muscle, lower back, shoulders, hip flexors, and on and on) The worst part would probably be my upper though.... well and my right hip.

My recent purchase of a foam roller has been much loved, but as soon as I stop it all surfaces again.

Anyone have suggestions? Pllleeeeaaassseeee...:frown:

You should take a break for few days and use foam roller all over your body. In 3-4 days you will be ready to go. Foam roller is a great tool:smile:

I do a thorough stretch after every workout and pay special attention to shoulder and oblique stuff, which is where I tighten up. I use the foam roller on problem areas after I've done the other stretching. I take a day off between workouts and do some stretching on those days, too, particularly if I've been sitting at the computer awhile.

I have a history of shoulder and neck problems, so I also have a prescription for a muscle relaxer that I haven't needed since I started being more consistent with the stretches. It might be worth talking to your doctor to see if something like that would help you as a short-term thing.

rest days are essential - that is where the magic happens for muscle rebuilding. make sure you take rest days regularly (I take 4 a week from heavy lifting but run or walk on those days). Ice ice ice and the foam roller

Stretch. Stretch and more stretching. I'm the weirdo at work who will start stretching as we gossip waiting for coffee, at the photocopier, wherever. I find the more I sit at work after a work out the more my muscles will seize up. You might even want to consider substituting one of your regular work out with a yoga class.
