Did I meet my goal weight or not?

I finally reached my goal weight of 123 (down from 161) on Saturday. I was so excited, but the very next morning the scale said 125!I've stayed at 125 since Sunday. I did not eat more calories than usual, but did go over 200ish mg on my sodium intake. Did I really reach 123 or was it a fluke?

Weight is not static. Most people when they reach maintenance give themselves a 3-5 pound buffer on each side of their goal weight that they stay within.1

With water and hormone fluctuations weight won't be the same every day, or even at different times the same day. I've found it best to have a goal range instead of one set number.0

What does it matter if you are 123 vs 125?
When you look in the mirror do you like what you see? Are you healthy? Do your clothes fit right?
a number is meaningless.9 -
Lots of things besides fat account for your weight but one thing is for sure: You can't weigh less than you weigh. So if your scale is accurate then you reached 123. And then you gained a couple lbs. of something (water, fat, waste, ... something)0

body weight isn't static, it fluctuates constantly throughout the day and from day to day...nobody weighs exactly XXX Lbs all of the time. Your weight is a range, not a particular number which is why it's kind of silly to have some exact number as your goal...and nobody is going around looking at you and being all..."damn...if she was only two pounds less on the scale she would be awesome."5

I go with "I weight what I weight today". And this is by weighing in the exact same fashion as I did the morning before. Us gals need to use a weight range +/- 3 -5 pounds. This method has given me peace with the scale.
If I am up 2 pounds one day, I watch the third and then change my diet if I see a possible trend starting after I ask myself what time of the month is it? If am down 1 - 2 pounds this is because I usually did not hydrate enough the day before or it possible that my carb range the day before was a bit lower or the third thing I exercise hard the day before.. or a combo of all..2 -
I usually give my weight as a 5 pound range. I bounce around inside of that range all of the time and it's completely normal.0

Pick a range instead of focusing on one number. Your weight will go up and down some every day. My goal was 135 but once I hit 137 I really considered myself in maintenance. Since then I have fluctuated between 134 -137.0
