Hello!
I'm Olive. I've recently started monitoring my health more seriously as a result of some anxiety/panic attacks, family history of diabetes and and heart disease, and preparing my body for the possibility of getting pregnant in a few years.
I'm not diabetic, but I check my blood sugar as if I was to better understand my body and hopefully prevent some of the ailments that most of my family has. I think for a while I was avoiding carbs too much for fear of becoming like my family, but I ended up going the other way, which led to hypoglycemic panic attacks and weight gain from fatty foods. (Eeesh!) Thankfully, I think the anxiety/panic was almost completely due to low blood sugar, so that's an easy fix. Luckily my mother-in-law is a certified diabetes educator and she's really helped me to understand how it all works.
Now it's all about consistently tracking my nutrients, monitoring blood sugar and blood pressure, and exercising. Thankfully, the weight is starting to come off naturally without me obsessing over the scale like I used to in my teen years. I definitely need to lose a lot of weight, but I know my history and body, so I'm trying to focus on nutrition and exercise and the weight loss should be a happy side effect of getting healthy in general.
I'd love to get to know other people striving towards a healthy lifestyle!

I feel you on the anxiety. That can make life so much more stressful. Kudos to you for starting a healthier lifestyle! Feel free to add me if you want some support. I just rejoined MFP after an 8 month hiatus and some weight gain.0
