Macros

Hi Everyone! I am new...only been doing this for 10 days. I had been at 197-199lbs for what seemed like an eternity. I was eating what I wanted and didn't gain or lose. Then what seemed like overnight I shot up to 204.5. It flipped a switch that made me actually realize that I had to do something. I am a 47 year old married Mom of a 26 year old Marine son. I dealt with an addiction to pain meds for years and years and when I finally hit bottom and got clean, I kind of went overboard and locked myself away in the house. After I was stable, I had been in the house so long, I don't like to leave it now. I definitely used food for comfort and ate a lot out of boredom. I do not like a lot of veggies...nothing leafy or stalky. My range on veggies is basically beans, corn, peas and a few others if they are cooked in something like soups or stews. I love my meat, potatoes and cheese. We also bought (and I still have a ton) of frozen meals...Stouffers, Michellinas, Boston Market, chicken strips in the bags...you name it.
I set my goal at the 2lbs a week so they have me set at the 1200 calories a day. I have no problem keeping in that but it has been challenging staying within the macro numbers for fat, salt and protein. I am ok on Protein unless I try eating meat for more than 1 meal a day. I am still going out in search of healthier options and have been eating a lot of chicken breasts and boiled potatoes. I also never used to eat eggs but have started doing 2 large for breakfast with a piece of turkey bacon and a piece of toast. I usually put a piece of cheese on my eggs too but it still works out to a reasonable number. I am going out again on Saturday to a different store to find some more variety and plan on trying some of the meatless (soybased) burgers and other meat type products. I really need something to replace my love of mac and cheese and mashed potatos. I really wish I could eat the mac and cheese because I absolutely love it.
Do all of you adhere strictly to the standard macro numbers? I am allowed 40 grams of fat a day which gets very trying to keep at or below that number. Salt is another issue. It is in almost EVERYTHING. I am not really a fresh fruit eater either. The only two things I am not having a problem with is sugar and carbs. For some reason, I am well within my limits on those. I haven't had a cheeseburger since I started and I think I can say that was my all time favorite food EVER.
Several people have told me as long as I don't go under my calorie limit that I am fine but my brain tells me after all these years of hearing "FAT BAD" that any fat I eat will go right to my backside. I could really use some advice, and some friends to help me on my journey so please feel free to add me. I just stopped smoking a year ago and, like I said, have done NOTHING but sit in my house for 6 years. I got a Garmin Vivofit 2 and I have managed 1/2 mile at a time at a 3.5-4mph pace but that is it so far. I guess it is better than what I was doing which was nothing but I welcome any input, advice and friendship you may have to offer.
Thanks in advance
Pam
