    now I'm routinely racing half marathons and marathons because I find 5K a bit unsatisfying.

    I like to race half marathons and marathons because I find 5k way too difficult! :smiley:

    5k's are a gut-wrenching, 3.1 mile sprint.

    I've only done one cos it's a random distance... you've no chance to warm up...

    10k or half marathon for me!

    Erm... What's wrong with warming up beforehand?!

    No, I mean getting into your stride and whatnot. Of course you can actually warm up before hand.

    This was my favourite article. 5ks are tough. I also prefer the half distance.

    LOL. There must be something wrong with me - my favorite races always have been 5ks and 400m

    @scorpio516 - clearly there is. :D I haven't done a 400m but I know that a 1 mile race is much worse than even a 5k. I can imagine the amount of suck involved in a 400m.

    @3dogsrunning I remember that article! :D I think part of the 'longer must be better' attitude comes from increased participation in running through C25k, fitness sites like this one etc. actually - the logic of C25k is 'build up the distance you can do', not try and run as fast as you can, and then you move up to B210k, etc., so people think 'okay, now I've run a half the next logical step is a marathon' and focus on completion rather than competition. Which is obviously fine, but that's where the patronising man on the plane's attitude has come from! Some of the best runners in my area have never raced over 10k and probably won't till they get a bit older if it turns out they are well-suited to racing longer distances but that is a more traditional approach for runners who've come up through the club system as kids.

    @scorpio516 Not only have I never raced 400, but I hope I never have to! :'(
