Ups and downs troubles

Has anyone out there ever been hit with bad events which made them just feel like not going for it anymore and it just felt pointless, how did you get through that struggle? Ive been working out for years and its such a bad feeling to have thinking it was for nothing and whats the point of doing it. I know everyone goes through hard times and struggles and I'm just trying to see how people managed to get through the tough times and back on track, what got you rolling again?
