The best diet is one you can stick to long term because unfortunately there are no quick fixes. You didn't put the weight on in a day so it won't come off in a day - or a week - either.12

Although many will probably disagree with me on this, I have a source (Lyle McDonald) who suggests that for some people, rapid initial weight loss is accompanied by more long term success versus slow weight loss.
McDonald has a book called "The Rapid Fat Loss Handbook"-- in which he discusses the reason behind rapid initial weight loss, etc. He does make clear that with this diet you'd lose a lot of weight quickly which isn't to be confused with fat loss. You'll lose fat for sure, but for a large amount of fat, you'll want a long term diet to stick to.
You might consider something like the ketogenic diet. The ketogenic diet has dieters stick to really low carbohydrates (generally less than 50 grams although most people can eat up to 100 grams), eat larger amounts of protein (generally your bodyweight in grams ex; if you're 130lbs, you'd eat 130g of protein), and the rest in healthy fats. Your body shifts into whats called a ketogenic state where it produces ketones (a chemical that helps mobilize more fatty acids in your stored fats). Although if you're looking to lose more than 5lbs. in one week, the ketogenic diet will most likely not get you that.
Any diet that has you lose more than 2-3lbs. in one week will be HELL, but I'm not gonna judge. If you want rapid weight loss, check out McDonald's book. Even if you don't do the diet it's a good read.3 -
Sorry, but MFP is not about "diets" but about tracking your caloric intake in a sensible way. Most people here do not advocate quick weight loss schemes. Best wishes on your health goals and good luck!
Although I agree with you that tracking your calories in a sensible way is the best way to lose weight and that MFP is mainly about that, weight loss is the end goal, no? Not meaning to argue, just have a healthy discussion. Of course we could discuss the difference between weight loss and fat loss, that'd probably be pointless.0 -
Fast results? Why fast results? None of us on this site got this way overnight your not gonna fix it overnight. Healthy eating, exercise, determination, consistency breeds results.7

If you are using MFP right now to count, that's all you need. It is not gonna come off quicker or better if you choose some bought and paid for diet plan, ready meal type plans, etc.
Anything that you do (this or a bought diet plan) is still gonna result in weight loss and as long as you are eating less food/less calories than you burn each day. If you want to exercise find something that you like now, or try something out that you may be interested in, but always do something that is fun and that you will enjoy each day or week and is sustainable for your schedule and lifestyle.
The most important thing you need along side your calorie deficit is patience to the process/method.4 -
How much weight do you have to lose, and what do you consider "fast"?0

Hello. I like you wanted to see quick results. That was me starting over 4 to 5 times because I didn't see the results I wanted so I said to heck with it. Now my understanding is that it's going to take time to take it off because it took time to put it on. But I do understand that some people like myself would like to see progress quickly in order to stick to whatever type of life change we choose. I understand where you're coming from and my best suggestion would be to find something you can stick with and take it one day at a time. The time is going to go by regardless why not let it go by with you losing weight. I can't remember so many times when I said I want to lose weight by three months. The three months came and left and I didn't get the results I want it so then I gained more weight. And then six months passed and I thought to myself if I were to only stuck to what I was doing in the first place and not give up because I didn't see the quick results that I wanted then I would be beyond what I was looking for in my weight loss. It's a struggle I understand it. This is my new motto. I hope this helps you, it is currently working for me. But again I am a work in progress.3

Quick fixes aren't always the best thing. This is a lifestyle change and it's got to be something you can continue to do for a long time/indefinitely.

If you're on the 30th floor of a building, the fastest way to get down is to jump out the window, but I'd never recommend it.
Focus on a long-term sustainable plan. It really doesn't matter how much weight you lose by next month - what matters is how much weight you keep off for the next year, ten years, fifty years, etc.22 -
The key to me was motivation. Fast weight loss can motivate the dieter to continue where as slow weight loss can demotivate some studies show. But those same studies show losing fast however is hard to continue to do long term.
My motivation is keeping my fat loss off for good. So I'm working on a way of eating that I can sustain for the rest of my life.
But as some say....the best diet is the one that works for you.2 -
In my opinion you can't look at this as a diet with quick results. Most diets suck and you fail eventually. You're giving up food that you like and you're miserable most of the time and eventually you can't do it anymore.
You have to adjust your mentality and look at this is a lifestyle change. By doing that you're going to establish habits and educate yourself which will keep the weight off long-term in my opinion. Remember it didn't take you a short time to put all the weight on that you want to lose and it won't take you a short time to lose all that weight.
Look at the process of setting small goals, may be monthly maybe every 3 months. I started at. 288 January 1st. For March 31st I set a goal of 250 and I hit that. I set my next goal of 230 for the end of June and I hit that one. I set one more goal of 224 the end of August I hit 2:08 beginning of August and I'm happy where I am right now I still may lose some more but at this point I'm in maintenance. By the way just to put things in perspective I thought no way I hit 250, 230 no way in hell. 208 what's a total pipe dream a fantasy. Like I said set small goals and feed off of them you will succeed it's not as hard as you think it's just a mental game but like I said don't look at this is a diet1 -
Any diet with the word fast in you should run from.0

This is not for everyone and most people fail on it. However it does work. Buy the book, read it and decide if it is for you!0
