I get so hungry in the evenings, before I'd just head to the cupboard and eat crap so has anyone got any ideas on how to keep me from doing this??

So many different things you can do.. Are you eating at your calorie limit for your goals? Are you exercising? Lots of missing info to give helpful advice.0

If I am in a phase where I am consistently hungry in the evening I save out a bigger portion of my daily calories for the evening meal/snacks.
If it's boredom eating I move my workout later (can't eat while working out, and it blunts my appetite for a while).
I also admit to occasionally going to bed early if I just don't want to deal with it.

I'm starving by the time I get home from work. Not because I don't eat or snack during the day either (plus I drink a bunch of water), so I have a tendency to over eat. I found that if I jump right into exercise when I get home I'm less likely to be as hungry after and I don't want to waste my workout so I eat less.
I think part of my problem, too, is I have acid reflux. I was on nexium for a while but it's not good for the long run so I stopped it, but when it's acting up I get "hungry" when in reality I think it's just my body wanting to stop it. Maybe that's what's happening to you?
I'm not really sure otherwise how to handle the hunger in the evening.1 -
I have to have a small snack (About 200 calories) between breakfast and lunch and between lunch and dinner or else I am starving by dinner. I usually have a complex carb with some protein, and then helps cull the hunger. Also, lots and lots of water0

Step 1, Don't keep crap in your cupboard. Step 2, have something lower cal, nutritious, and satisfying in your cupboard to eat instead.
I don't know what your calorie goal is, but maybe you need to reevaluate, and up it by 250 per day. If it's less than 1500 per day, you almost certainly would benefit by eating a bit more. Yes, you might lose a bit slower, but 250 day would slow your loss by only 0.5 lb per week. If you don't binge on crap every night, it might actually improve your loss because you could end up eating less in the long run.0
