What do you think of somatotypes?

Doesn't seem right to me, I have traits of all three. Plus anyone can be overweight? I found it discouraging because it suggested people of ''my type'' had underdeveloped muscle or were slow to build it- I thought it was just hiding under my fat.

Yup. The guy who invented the concept came up with them based on the feelz different people gave him or something like that.
Nothing scientific about it at all.0 -
It was created by a psychologist based on BEHAVIORS of said somatotypes. In other words, people who ate too much were endomorphs, etc. So if one is an ectomorph when a teen, does no exercise or activity and gains 100lbs, then they switch their somatotype to endomorph? It's a bunch of pseudoscience and if you hear a fitness trainer or any instructor place you in a somatotype, then it's likely they don't know a lot about physiology.

Total crap.
The original purpose wasn't even a discussion of health and weight, but tried to link people's outward appearance to personality. So tall, thin people were cerebral introverts, short, fat people were extroverted but lazy, people in between were courageous and heroic, etc. It's just phrenology of a different age.5 -
Somatypes are descriptive of frame and body type. They have no value beyond this.1
