My toe hurts

I scraped off half my big toe nail at a bar on Friday. It hurt. Feels a lot better now (Tuesday), but I'm wondering how long I should wait before I run again. I've trimmed it down as much as I can, but I'm worried about my sock/shoe rubbing on it, and it feels kind of bruised all over. Should I just try it and see how it goes?

yikes, i've done something similar to my right big toe TWICE and now it's grown back all jacked up which required surgery, again, TWICE, for ingrown nails. *sigh*

in any case, in my experience, all 4 experiences healed the best by wearing open toed shoes and allowing the nail bed to breath. I was given specific instructions from my doctor that i should soak the nail in warm water with epsom salt and gentle wipe the surface of the remaining nail and nail bed as well as avoiding socks, close toed shoes, or any situations in which the nail may remain damp because the likelihood of experiencing an infection is higher..... for 6 weeks.

All of these times though i lost atleast 2/3's of my nail with a lot of nail bed exposed. So your case might not be as extreme. Either way, keep it clean, keep it dry, and give it time. you might want to try something like a stationary bike or elliptical with open toed shoes.
