When you know you're going to have a family day out or brunch with the girls, How do you prepare yourself? Do you call it your cheat day or up your training or maybe go for an extra walk. Today I have my first brunch since I started MFP and I'm curious how most handle those events. I have lost 16lbs since June 23 and I am scared this may throw me off. So I am looking for some advice.

To prepare myself I look at the menu online first and decide what I am going to eat before I get there and tell myself that I will not give in to peer pressure to eat something that is going to make me feel guilty and unhealthy, bloated, etc. If that is not possible just use common sense as to what is a good healthy choice. Example- do not try to justify how pancakes or Belgium waffles are ok. I personally don't have "cheat days." I always try to make the best choice possible. Sometimes when you are out with friends and not participating in your normal routine you don't eat as well as you do on your own and that's life. But no, I personally never decide ahead of time that I'm just going to be reckless and eat whatever.
For me brunch is pretty easy because they is almost always fruit and eggs which are what I consider clean eating. I actually prefer to do brunch with friends as opposed to dinner because I can usually make better choices. You can always ask for your toast "dry" (without butter). You can also ask if they can make your eggs, omelet, etc with egg whites. They usually only charge you like .75 more. You can always ask if you can substitute as well. Lots of times I will substitute something else for hash browns. I do this ALL the time at even the most unhealthiest and not vegetarian friendly restaurants (I'm vegetarian about 90% of the time. I'll do fish occasionally.) Drink lots of water with lemon. If everyone is drinking and you want to participate have one. Just one, enjoy it, and drinks lots of water for the rest of the day.
I'll usually go on a walk or pedal on the exercise bike while reading a book. Just something little to burn off some extra calories. To me, no food is worth having to kill myself physically to burn the calories off. Whenever you want to eat something that you consider "cheating" think of how far you have come and how long you will have to exercise to burn the calories off.
I look at calories like money. If I want to splurge on something at the store I think about how many hours of work will go into that particular item, if I am ok with that, then I buy it. Same thing with eating.
Congrats on your weight loss so far! I would love to be friends. Feel free to send me a friend request xoxo0
