Prednisolone and motivation

In May I was diagnosed with a crappy autoimmune disease and put on 60mg of pred. After putting the entire contents of the fridge between 2 slices of bread, I flipped out when I got on the scales to find i'd put on half a stone in about 2 weeks. Since then i've been on a low carb diet and have lost 25lb. I am now on 20mg of pred and am starting to plateau so losing motivation and worries the pred will start winning. I'm starting to get massive hunger bouts and binge cravings. Any advice to curb them and keep going!!!?!

I'm so sorry to hear of your vasculitis. I have been on Pred a bunch of times in my life but only for poison ivy, so a 7 day dose pack. It messes with me emotionally so very much. However, when I am weaning down off of it is when I get hungry. Like bottomless pit hungry. Like put the whole fridge in my mouth hungry. What I found helps-not saying completely stops it-is drinking a lot of cold water. Also I would do some self talk as in "this is the amount you ate when you were watching calories, you've eaten that amount, now stop. You technically are full."
I don't know if that helps at all and it sounds like your doses are higher but please know I know how you feel and how strong those cravings are!
Great job on the 25 pounds lost too! Try to hang in there and distract yourself from the cravings. Easier said than done, I know. Good luck, I wish you the very best!2 -
I have been on prednisone, on an off - doses from 3 mg to 60 mg - for 20 years. I have been on a maintenance dose for the past 10 years. Like jones1976, I become hungry when I am decreasing dosage, and I find drinking cold water helps, too. A few times a year, I need to take 50 mg of prednisone for 3 to 5 days to get over a flare. Those short-duration large doses do not seem to affect my appetite. I think the reducing dosages will test your will, but once a dose is established, your appetite will return to normal. I have been at my goal weight for one year. Good luck.2

Ugh, Pred is such a necessary evil! Such a tough drug! I'm sorry that all of you have to go through this...next time I get poison ivy (I've been clear for 3 weeks, so I'm due for more1
