(First off, apologize if a thread on this topic already exists. I looked, but did not find one.) So, anyway.... My name is Alicia. I will be 37 on September 10th. I've been married almost 6 years to the love of my life—a skinny guy who literally eats twice as much as I do. I have a beautiful 14 year old step-daughter, 2 dogs, and 4 cats. Last fall, I went to my family doctor to discuss my general health, along with my seeming infertility. So he refers me to an endocrinologist. I see the guy and he orders some labs. 2 weeks later, I get a call from one of his nurses, telling me that I have PCOS—which I have long suspected. So I assume I need to make a follow-up appointment to discuss treatment options. Nope. I'm told that the endocrinologist is discharging me back to my family doctor for care. Okay, fine, I think. I have a diagnosis, so my doc should be able to take it from here. Wrong! He tells me I need to see the endocrinologist for treatment. I tried to explain what the endocrinologist told me, but my doc is adamant that he is a GP not a specialist. My Dad has end-stage renal failure, so I have been helping with his care, and my own health sort of got put on the back burner. Things have settled down some for the moment, so I am now shopping for a new GP. I guess what I'm wanting to know is how other women are managing this condition so that I know what I'm up against, what questions to ask the new doc, etc. Any and all insight would be appreciated. And feel free to add me as a friend, too! Thanks in advance....

Your obgyn could probably treat you as well. Good luck.

Everyone's journey is so different with PCOS. My ob/gyn handles mine though. There's different meds and hormones you can take but honestly the thing that has helped me manage mine best, is weight loss.
