Is body shape controlled by hormones?

I've become curious lately. I've always had a "masculine" body shape, carrying all my overweight on the front of my ribs/abdomen but not much on the sides. I was a tomboy growing up and lacked any interest in all things feminine, although I do find men attractive, i.e. not gay. My shape was so much like my dad's that I assumed it was hereditary. Except recently, I've noticed that most women I meet around my age (65) seem to have become my body shape, with bulky torso and front fat, so now I'm wondering if maybe I've always been estrogen deficient.

Although I'm not physically unattractive, men have never been attracted to me for sex or relationships--(I seem to be missing that certain "something") but they love being buddies with me, even married ones. They seem very comfortable with me, and their wives/girlfriends frequently are jealous, even though now at my weight (230) and age, it would seem obvious I'm not a threat to them.

Has anyone else noticed this tendency in post menopausal women? Do you think it is hormonal?
