Hi my name is James and i am 42 years old. I actually joined the site for 2 reasons. 1st is that I have a wife that is very overweight 100lb+. 2nd is because i am a X personal trainer and after my accident 10 years ago i can not work and therefore can spend a lot of my time and energy helping anyone i can on the board.
Let me back up a bit and explain my story.
I have been with my wife for 20 years now and weight gain has always been a big part in our lives. Considering i was always into lifting weights therefore eating more calories then an average person. This is fine for someone that was at my level of fitness. Short time after meeting my wife, living together, etc. She started to following my eating habits and portions. Long story short after many years she became overweight. The problem this lead to was something i am sure others had to deal with. She lost her fight with the weight and started it with me. Now do not jump to the conclusion that i do not support her. I have spent my 15+ years being the best husband i could be. We fought a lot about her weight. Me basically a gym bum and her obese. I really dont care how she looks but the weight adds more stress to her self esteem and has made her so much more bitter. My wife is trapped in there somewhere and i know she wants out but the fact is she doesn't seem to want to make any effort. I tried to get her to sign up here. Told her friends would be good for her. We eat very well however she is unwilling to add things like green tea and other fat boosting food because they dont taste good. She is unwilling to add more activity as she is sore from working. (housekeeper in a hotel) Knees sore, shoulder is sore, feet are sore. So until she is ready to make the next step i am offering any help to anyone that needs it. I would lay down my life to end the suffering of this weight gain for her, to see herself as attractive and sexy again, proud of who she is. I honestly dont know what more i can do but help others with all my time and knowledge. I still train hard even though i have to modify my workouts based on my injury but my god if you are not ready for the fight then you will not succeed. I really miss my wife and someday i hope to have that cheerful, playful, fun loving person who does not feel the need to protect herself from the world.

That's all you can do James is be there and offer the help.
The ultimate trigger that drives us to better health is different for everyone.
Good on you for offering help here, not sure i need the help per se at the moment but I would be happy to add you to my friends list and feed in the event I do.
Be warned, I'm sarcastic as hell sometimes.0 -
You are doing all you can. Your wife is going to have to find it in herself to get healthy.
Before I met my hubby, I was down to a nice weight. Then, I gained and gained with him. I don't know how I let myself go. And hated the way I looked, thinking my husband deserved a better looking wife. It took me last year to finally decide to get serious about this. We had been members of a gym but I never applied myself. Now, eight months later, I'm 30+ pounds lighter and feel really good about myself. And my hubby stuck by me through it all.
So...just keep on doing what you are doing with your wife. Hopefully, eventually she'll want to get healthy for herself.
Feel free to add me if you need a friend.0 -
Little update, something must have clicked with my wife its been 4 months now that she has been on the diet and exercise. Its not weightlifting but its 4.2km a night 6 nights a week. Shes down a total of -8lbs so far and going strong. She sees her body changing even if the scale only shows 8lbs. I am excited that she is finally on her way. I also helped make this possible by cooking all of the food for her and preparing her lunches etc. My only concern is running out of food, we are not exactly financially set. Me being disabled not bringing in much but if you want it bad enough u find a way.0

Good for her! And of course for you too. Stock up on frozen veg and fruit for lean times when you cannot get or afford the fresh.0

Would she sent up a MFP account? There are so many people that are supportive, and maybe that will help keep her motivated?0
