Calories in pork?

My husband bought from our local market something that's labeled "Pork Shoulder Straps Semi-Bone." I put "pork shoulder straps" into MFP to see what came up for calories (because the nutritional info isn't on the label of the meat itself), and no results popped up.

Would I just enter "pork shoulder?" I did that and there are numerous options for serving sizes and calories that vary from 1 bone being 371 calories, to 5oz being only 210 calories. Any help is appreciated!

  • Yes, its all coming from the same section of the pig and is likely to have the same fat content. I would use whatever you find for "pork shoulder", "boston butt", or "pork butt".

I would put it in as pork shoulder (shoulder 'straps' may be your butcher's name for shoulder 'strips') and then weigh my servings size of meat. I think it's probably something like 70-80 calories per ounce.
