Training for Police Academy

Hello everyone. I know that my discussion topic might be a little different but thought I'd try. I'm a 41 year old mom of 2. I have Hashimoto's Disease which makes it very hard to lose weight. Recently I was laid off from my job and I had to do some serious soul searching. I had a good 3 months to think about things. Frankly it had been the 2nd time I had been laid off in 10 years and I was tired of it. So I decided to apply for state and government jobs. Low and behold I never knew I would ever get accepted to try out for the hiring process of the police department. I am aware that it's very tough and they are always looking for good people but secretly it had always been a dream of mine. Coming from a military family I always wanted to be either military or a cop but chose the safe college and corporate life. I've also been amazed of how much support I've received from my husband and family. They all say that I have the character and the energy to be a police officer. As of now, I have applied for 3 different agencies and have done well so far. I just passed the physical test on one and have another this Saturday. I think the physicals are not that hard. It's the academy that is insane.
I'm looking for some like minds that will offer a little encouragement and I can help motivate as well. Other than my family there are not a lot of 40 year old moms doing something like this. But at least I can say that so far I'm able to keep up with the 20 year old's!
God only knows what is in store for me. At the advice of my husband I took a cushy well paying corporate job while I'm in the police hiring process (takes about a year). Who knows, I might just make it and make my dream come true. Worst case scenario I don't make it and I remain at my job but I would have become even more healthy with all the training. (Those that are into running I need your guidance!)
Thank you again for reading all this and onward we all go!

Congratulations on starting the process. I think it's great. When you set your mind to something you will notice that you are tougher than you think. I say go for it. And keep us posted on how the process works out for you. Also if you don't make this job there lots more to apply for in government and law enforcement. Wish you the best!0

Bless you for wanting to serve! Working in law enforcement is one of the most honorable things one can do. I'm not full time anymore, but work part time as a trainer with our local officers.
I have hypothyroidism and while it makes things tougher - it isn't an issue. Jillian Michaels has Hashimoto's as well as do many elite level athletes.
You are entering a profession where your physical ability will have a very real impact on your life and promotional opportunities. I highly recommend taking some manner of martial art and keep training as part of your daily regimen.
