Fat spine fused knee rebuilt guy

I want to add strength to my walking. Where do I go to find out what to do and how to safely do it? I'm in my 50's. Losing weight but a long way to go. Walking 15-20 miles a week, 110 lbs from goal. Down almost 40 since April. Yeah, like I said fat. Not for long though!

you are the million dollar man. I would ask your doctor what is safe with your new parts.

Laz, not quite a million but enough to bankrupt a guy. My Internest wasn't really helpful. Interviewing a new one next month, thanks blue cross. I definitely have it on my list. But I feel like I need to do something, I've been having longer plateaus. I have been rolling at 8-14 pounds a month until August. Doing the same stuff to keep me honest. No lying to me anymore. But stagnant for a week and a half this month. Dropped 3 sitting there for 5 days.

Are you using inclines yet? Some minor weight lifting may help you out in the long runs but I'm not sure of what your restrictions would be.

Also it is normal for weight loss to slow down even if you're doing things right. not always a sign to step it up, sometimes you need patience. Burning out will slow you down faster than a week or two with no loss.

Inclines? I live in the Houston area we are flat. I hike weekends off road. Dog loves it. He's never going to catch the rabbits. I haven't lifted in 28 years, before knee surgery.

do low impact on your knee until you lose some weight. i have a rebuilt knee and i can do everything, i just do it slower and more carefully. and i don't run anymore.
I'd like to know what exercises can be done with a fused spine, the spine specialists told us "normal" activity, but that scares me. Everyone i know with fused spines says keep a strong core.

Be diligent with your diet, thats how you will lose the weight.

I had a spinal fusion 3 years ago. I still do about an hour of yoga/core exercises every day. If I miss a day, I'm usually in pain.

Did you do yoga before the fusion? How do you know what won't screw with the fusion? Mine is l1L2. Nerve damage right leg. Sciatica on rainy days and any day I stay in bed too long.
