Help! I am so lost when it comes to supplements...

Hi there! So currently I am taking NO supplements. I plan on starting either Insanity or Focus T25 with some lifting shortly and I was thinking of supplementing. I am just not exactly sure how it works... I am for sure going to buy a whey protien powder and use that for sure after the work out. Do I do any before the workout? Also, I was considering a preworkout supplement? Does anyone use those and are their pros? I see that they have caffeine in them and wondering if that is good for my body?
If you can recommend me some brands that would be nice on my wallet, that would also be a big help :)
