Bowel movement & weight gain

Before reading, just want to say that this may be gross for some people and TMI...

So i reached a low weight 2 weeks ago 69 kg, i am 173 cm.
I usually weight myself everyday and try to not make myself focus about normal fluctuations. I weighted myself last week and i was 70 kg. At first i thought. I probably had lots of sodium the day before... No big deal. 5 days in a row i weighted myself in the morning before eating or drinking and after going to the bathroom and i was still 70 kg. So i was sure i gained weight. Until i went to the bathroom in the middle of the day, weighted myself after and i was 69 again.
I never had a problem with bowel movement since i started here on MFP 3 months ago.
I hate that this is happening and i tend to freak if i gained and it lasts for more than 4 days. And then i believe that i did something wrong or didn't eat or track well enough.
I will try to increase my fiber intake but how long do you think i should wait before i start freaking out about weight gain? Because i don't know whats normal and what's not.

Fluctuations on the scale. This is all this is. Carb intake, sodium, hydration and lack there of, for females hormones, food in gut/waste not eliminated, not getting enough rest, muscle repair, added stress because of worry and freaking out, all show on the scale in one form or another.

It is not unusual to be up for 3 - 4 days straight, down for 2 days, etc... Use your scale daily instead of letting it work against you. Trend your weight using a weight trending app if you choose to weight daily.

If you stay up in weight for about 5 days straight and you cannot figure out that it is fluctuations by looking at what you ate, if you are hydrated, went to the bathroom, etc.... , then you need to readdress the logging process because you may have gained a pound.

I don't think you should ever freak over your weight. Does your scale measure only in whole numbers? If so, then the difference could be as little as .1 kg. I'm not sure from your post if you are trying to lose weight or have reached your goal, but as noted above it's natural for your weight to fluctuate a bit. Just keep an eye on the scale over time and if you don't see a trend in the direction you expect over a few weeks, then adjust your diet/exercise to fix it.

i am still trying to lose weight. my goal is maybe 64 or 63 kg. so i still have 5-6 kg (11-13lbs) to lose.
it doesn't measure in whole numbers, but it is not a digital scale. but the needle was hovering over the 70 kg. .. hopefully this resolves. i was 69 for two days and now i am 70 again. so it seems like i am just having some bowel movement issues. upped my fiber intake today as my fiber intake was pretty bad for a month. almost zero :/

If you have IBS where you go from constipation to the Big-D your weight will fluctuate even more!!

Informative pic. thanks for posting it. i kinda understand that i lose and gain throughout the day. but just because it is my first time since i started dieting gaining for almost 5 days and then losing it. i always thought weighting at morning would be accurate if you didn't have high sodium intake in the previous day.

:D didn't figure out that its okay until i saw 69 on the scale again. and even though i know i didn't gain 1 kg of fat in 1 day (because today morning i was 70 kg),

i almost quit because i felt that i screwed up. but i guess even if i did. i just have to fight what my mind tells me.

as far as i know, i don't have IBS .. just don't eat lots of fiber
anyway, i am just rambling now. thanks for your post, it helps.

Obviously, if you haven't had a bowel movement in days all of that weight is still sitting inside you and building up. The weight gain in itself is perfectly explainable and nothing to be concerned about because you'll obviously lose that weight once you do finally "go".

I'd be more concerned about getting enough fiber so that it doesn't become a chronic issue.

OMG this is so true! I hate having the Big-D due to my IBS but I can count on my weight decreasing the next day.

I wonder if you are using accurate entries from the database. To get almost zero fiber, you'd have to be eating no fruits, vegetables, grains, or legumes. I get 5-11 g of fiber per meal.

umm, that's something to think about.

i don't eat lots of fruits and vegetables!! my mom is staying with me for awhile and whenever she is here. she do all the shopping and i just eat what she gets. but i asked her the other day to get my some fruits and vegetables.

is there's fiber in whole wheat toast? i eat that with everything :)

yeah, i probably didn't even remember that i didn't go for days, or maybe i did go but didn't empty my stomach. i feel very bloated though. my stomach feels like me when i was 85 kg

You seem to be scale and weight obsessed, and might want to look into that more than any digestive issue.

maybe i am, i dunno. but i get genuinely concerned about my diet. i don't want to mess up. i've been doing so good for 4 months now and if i am doing something wrong now. then i need to know so i can go further. that's probably the main reason i am so obsessed right now. thank you for the input. i will talk about that with my therapist :)

It's not uncommon for people who are dieting to have reduced bowel movements. If someone is cutting down on their total food intake, then there is less food physically inside of you all the time, so of course you'll need to go less often.

The recommended goal for women for fibre is 20-25g per day and MFP will show you your total daily intake. You can get this from vegetables, legumes, chia seeds and other seeds, whole grains, potatoes and sweet potatoes, loads of foods! You should know if you are eating whole grain toast all the time how much fibre is in it, that'll be on the packet or MFP. Drinking something warm on an empty stomach (eg a herbal tea) can help also, and generally increasing your fluid intake. Dehydration will make everything more uncomfortable!

Also try not to get toooo obsessed with the scale. It's great you're doing so well, I'm down from 85kg-65kg but sometimes I'm 64 and sometimes I'm 66 and it's okay. When I see 66 I don't want to "give it all up" or whatever you said, because this is lifestyle and not a diet. You say you've "worked hard" to get to this weight which I don't doubt, we all work hard tracking our food and deciding against certain food choices. But as you near your goal weight you have to find something sustainable because the low 60kgs at your height is a weight that will require discipline to maintain and you know...life is for living too! Use this time to slowly approach your goal and prepare for a lifetime of maintenance instead of fussing over a wobbly needle.

If you have an iPhone try the Happy Scale app, you enter the weight each day and smoothes it into a moving average. As long as the overall trend is down, I am happy! If it starts going up then I would know it was truly a gain and not just normal fluctuations. I hear there is a similar app called Libra on Android.

I would definitely get more fruits and veggies!

My whole wheat bread has 3 g of fiber per slice. What does the package say on your bread? Does it match the entry you've been using in the diary? When you are picking an entry to use, don't just look at calories, but at least carbs, protein, fat and fiber.

the package doesn't have any information regarding fiber intake

    Nutrition facts per 100 gm
    energy: 238.58
    total fats: 2.26
    sodium: 415.10
    carbs: 45.25
    protein: 9.31

it is a local bread company so i had to enter the food in the database myself.

the ingredients are wheat flour, bran, water, vegetable oil, sugar, sali, yeast, soy flour, permitted bread improvers, calcium propionate 0.2%

should i buy from another brand if the information is not available on the package?
